What is a good bike light mount?

Need another bike light mount. I have the one that mounts with two rubber bands. I need something more sturdy for slightly heavier lights or rough roads. The rubber bands on my mount will let my light move if I hit a bump.

It needs to be quick release because I don’t want my lite stolen if I leave it outside while in a store or pub. People will steal anything so I need to be able to take the light off in a snap.

I just read about this one:

Was recommended in a German forum.

That one looks good to me. I will prob buy that but also wait for a few other options. How did I not see that mount last time I checked DX?

I ordered it along with a few others cehowardGS recommended me.

But I dont know how "quick" those are to release. Should be pretty solid though.

They all look quick release. I just don’t want to have to spend more than a few seconds to remove the light from the mount because I know how lazy I am and woukd prob leave it on and it would get yanked.

I think I am going to order the velcro one as well. It looks solid.

I have the velcro type and I like it. It practically doesn’t move at all, and it’s super easy to take the light on and off.

Oh, and it’s cheap, too.

I actually have this clamp:

I’ve used it briefly and it’s only suitable for the smaller lights like an Ultrafire 501b (P60 host?). The plastic part that mounts underneath the light is very flexible and flimsy, and the top part where the clamp swivels is flimsy and can actually be removed quite easily, I’d hate to think what would happen if you hit a big bump with a larger flashlight in it. Otherwise it’s a handy helmet clamp if used upside down reverse style with a small flashlight.

I have several clamps that I’m currently using, this one is by far the most stable:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-bicycle-mount-for-flashlights-and-gadgets-2cm-3cm-diameter-adjustable-15642?item=2

and works great with my trustfire TR-3T6. It’s not a quick realease style, but in a matter of seconds you can unscrew the screw with your hands and take the flashlight with you, you don’t need any tools. As I live in Vietnam leaving my bike unseen is not an option, and with this clamp I feel pretty safe, in particular as their are very skillful motorbike thieves prowling the roads.

If you’re using 26550 lights like the Shadow JMO7 pro this one works well:

I’ve bought this one from several places in Vietnam, and each one is a slightly different variant made of softer/harder plastics, ones that swivel %360 and ones that are fixed. They all work, the harder plastic versions are a bit more stable on the handle bars. It’s a lottery if you order it on the internet as to which one you will actually get, but they all provide more stability than this particular mount:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-bicycle-swivel-mount-for-flashlights-and-lasers-1-7-3-0cm-flexible-diameter-21314?item=20

which is perhaps the one you’re referring to or similar as it’s just a rubber style clamp and better suited for smaller lights as a helmet mount.

If you find the swivel version of the one I’ve posted above there is a better chance of getting the hard plastic version, although the soft ones still work fine with my JM07 and Poppas 878 26650 lights.

Which flashlight are you using?

NightCrawl I’ve got the first 2 you’ve mentioned, hard to tell if the first one is the version A or B of the fixed version, one is slightly more stable than the other with a harder plastic material.

The swivel version is made of a harder plastic and is pretty good, there’s also another version of the 360% swivel version that has an even harder plastic material. Anyway they’re all good.

In terms of quick release those 2 you just pull out the flashlight, there’s no clamp system. The plastic just flexes and clamps hard around the flashlight so it’s convenient. You just have to push and maybe manipulate the plastic a little to get a 26650 light in place, but it’s nothing that requires any great deal of force and the plastic does a good job of solidly mounting the flashlights in place.

I use this one with very good result - I use P60 most of the time.

Has swivel with "teeth" on the inside, so your adjustment stays. Very quick to release but holds very strongly - this is its strongest point. No problem with roads that are a bit bumpy, but never tested on really rough road.

I originally just bought it to bring total up to get free registered shipping but in the end it became my favorite holder.

Listen to cehoward, he has lots of bikes and flashlights.

I like and use both of these. I have the first link, like the 2nd better. These are cheap enough to order a bunch, especially the velcro ones, which are a snap to remove. The plastic version is a more solid mount however, and offers less shaking.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to try 2-3 of the recommended mounts and see what works best. Between my wife and myself, we have nine bikes. I woukd probably only ride at night on my mt bike and hybrid so I onky need two good mounts for myself and two for the wife.

This thread is pretty old, but I need a decent bike light. I’ve got plenty of flashlights; does anyone have any suggestions for a good bike mount from modern times? Or is it better to get a dedicated bike light? If so, perhaps you have some recommendations.

I use this with Jaxman E2L (used before others flashlights too)

I tried half a dozen before I found this one: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Bicycle-Light-Flashlight-Holder/dp/B00HMY3YNC

I’ve been very happy with it. It holds securely so the flashlight beam doesn’t bounce around like other mounts.

Plastic mount
Aluminum mount

I bought this one a few years ago and still like it. It is rubber, so my big TN4A moves around a bit as I ride, but I actually like that. It sort of simulates a bike flasher without the flasher. Anyway, it is not in stock on amazon any longer, but I say them on ebay also at one point. easy to install light, and easy to remove.
