Please recommend a multi tool under $30

I'm thinking of gifting a multi tool to a friend of mine. What would be the best / coolest looking one, given a budget of max $30?

No other restrictions than the price. Feel free to recommend anything..

Thanks in advance!

Are Leatherman multi-tools available in Finland for under $30?

(That's where I would start.)

Those are cool, but even the cheapest ones are about $60.. :(

Any other ideas?

I carry a Gerber Curve Mini on my keychain, it’s very small and probably does not qualify as a multitool (I have a leatherman in the car).
It is light and suitable for keyrings, and suits my EDC requirements perfectly.
I’ve had it on the keys for 7 months, quality is good, so prehaps you could look at some of the larger Gerbers. (such as Solstice, Clutch and Shortcut which are all larger and in your price range on ebay.)

_the_, i found these 3 threads quite helpful:

Recommend me a multitool <$20

Any recommended low price Chinese multi-tools?

Multitool recommendations

I gave my friend a Ganzo-made multitool (Winchester Winframe/Gerber Suspension replica) purchased from a local groceries store (ALDI/LIDL). At first he was really impressed with it!! ;)

Had cost 6.99EUR, branded TOPCRAFT or WORKZONE either way:

The tools on it are junk except for the saw and the file but the pliers are great, the tools feels nice in the hand, and the thing looks really cool. As i said, quite impressive at first look.

No second look needed. My friend does not need or use a multitool but he still liked obtaining one as gift. Ergo, great gift, cool looking!!

leatherman is really worth the extra money.

Up it to $40 and get a Ganzo G301.

+1 if size is not an issue.

About Leatherman being worth the extra…

I recently had to fix my Wave, they “had no parts” so gave me a brand new one. The new one had very un-evenly tightened pliers. One side opened too loose, other side was too firm.
Smaller tool in general were hard to open.
Last but worst finishing flaw was the knife blade: I don’t know the term but think of giving a bigger blade a sharpening with angle grinder, from one side only. This leaves a “flappy” piece of metal to the other side. Very visible, too bad did not take a pic.

Sold the LM away immediately…

My two previous LM’s (bought 2001 and 1997) were better.

G301 Ganzo (I have passed 2 or 3) has constantly had better finish than the last Wave I had.
Sounds pretty odd to me.

+ 1 on the g301, but the tool is huge and the sheath even bigger.

I cannot attest to the quality of the replica, but the Gerber Suspension has performed above-and-beyond expectations of a $30 tool.

I have gifted several, and all recipients are equally smitten.

Have tried them all.
What works for me is:
1 pair needle nose electrical pliers
1 4-way screw driver
1 adjustable wrench

I seem to be able to break the multi tools,
and I am just a very weak 71 year old male.

Good tools are made in china depends on
the spec’s. Just like our lights.

+1
leatherman, sog, any real SAK (swiss army knife) look a lot better than anything from exduct.

that sucks! why didnt you send it back?

ive seen great examples of higher end leathermans recently. ive bought and gifted multiple carbon fiber skeletools and titanium charge tti’s. i scored the best deals on the charge’s. i found a brand new one on ebay with the holster missing for 69 shipped to hawaii. cabelas has the charge tti for like 150. it has a ton of locking tools and a s30v blade with fiskars scissors
i inspected every one for fit and finish and i couldnt have been happier. i also have handled a pair of SOG powerlocks in black oxide and those also look great. id much rather pay 70-80 for a leatherman or sog than half that for one from exduct.

My vote goes to the Ganzo. I have one (Winchester-branded) and I’m very happy with it. The, if you’re in Finland I don’t think you can get here in Europe anything under those approx. 25 Euro better than Ganzo (btw, they’re the oem for Gerber MT’s, if I’m not wrong). If you can’t get them on Lidl or Aldi, then on ebay, dx, etc are about 12-15 Euro the big ones and around 6-7 the smaller models.

Thank you all for the good advice! :)

Ganzo G301 looks good indeed. I might crank up the budget and buy one of those.

Did I understand correctly that any of the lower priced Ganzo MTs doesn't have locking tools?

Like the Arc AAA — had it forever, and it’s always with me.
Sure, I buy the other ones too and carry them, off and on.

First of all, I sent the first sample for REPAIR, because it was a gift I would have liked to keep.
Without question, they trashed it and sent a new one (with crap quality) so I pretty much had it.
Sharpened the blade myself and lubed / fixed the plier-thing and sold it away (since it had no memory value for me anymore…).

Wave was too big for me anyway, as is Ganzo G301. ATM I have NO multitool if you don’t count 2$ micra copy.

(suggest smaller multitool, LM wingman size perhaps but not LM  )

…which makes it a legal carry-on “knife” in some countries (specially here in Europe…).

Out of curiosity, is there a multitool available with electrically insulated handles?

That G301 looks pretty solid, but expensive. Must be heavy and huge! can’t imagine that for EDC though.

I have not bought a multitool ever since my last one broke 12 years ago. My mom borrowed it to remove a broken christmas light and the metal just snapped right behind the plier hinge. Pretty much stopped buying stuff from Walmart after that
