I’m new here and I would really appreciate some help!
I’m planning to buy my first 26650 flashlight, the Shadow XM-L JM07 PRO. I’ve bought 2 King Kong batteries from IO earlier.
Does anyone know if this is a good flashlight? Brightness, quality etc? (Or is there anything better? No more than 55 USD!) I’m looking at the JM07 because it has OP reflector and that would probably give a little bit more flood, which I need. I have too many throwers already.
The only con I can see with the JM07 is that is has STROBE mode, something I don’t like or want. It might have the NANJG 105 driver, so that the modes can be changed with the stars? Or can I replace the driver? The NANJG 105 is 17mm, what driver size does the JM07 have? Or should I just mail Hank from IO and ask if he sells with just high/mid/low?
Thanks a lot for your help! I really need to update my flashlight collection before the winter hits here in Sweden. (It gets really really dark, just a few hours of REAL daylight…)
JM07 is an excellent light, I consider it one of my best. Great combination of flood/throw, using it for night cycling. If you want the 3 mode, check it out from CN Quality Goods / Fancy Flashlights:
That is the first time I've noticed they have different tail caps. I will speculate that this is how they are manufactured. If the re-seller wants the 3-mode, he gets one tail cap, 4-mode, the other. I don't think there are any other major differences, certainly not in performance that I have heard. The JM07 is a fairly new light, came out approximately October of 2011 if I recall. Both IOS and CNQG were quick to pick up the Shadow line, and I don't think there is a newer version. I would feel comfortable buying a light from either, and have on many occasions.
You will find that CNQG and IOS have many lights in common. Usually if one picks up a new light, the other will shortly follow and their prices with shipping factored in are always very close. I think they watch each other.
It has been 4 days since I placed my order and it hasn’t been shipped yet. Website states that order will be shipped 1-2 days after payment received. I sent e-mail 2 days ago, asking how it’s going and I’ve got no response yet. Is this normal?
EDIT: Also, I didn’t get any order confirmation? :~
Slacker - CNQG is sometimes hit or miss on the notifies, but I've never heard of an issue receiving the product. Did you ask for tracking? If you didn't and it hasn't shipped yet, you should. PM BLF member Ric-CN - he runs the place.
I ordered registered air mail. Status on websites is unshipped and I haven’t received any kind of email confirmation is there a possibility that it’s shipped even if it says unshipped?
Slacker, there's a very good chance it has shipped. In my experience, they have a 1-2 day lag, not unlike our own post office. You should definitely PM Ric if you are not getting any response from their Customer Service. Don't feel bad about doing it, I pester him all the time when I want something...
EDIT: I placed an order at FF over 36 hours ago, 7/25. Just checked status, still says Confirmed,Payed,Unshipped
What everyone else said, awesome light. The only issue I experienced were tailcap issues. But once you know what to do it’s easy to fix, unlike myself as I returned mine twice before I figured out the problem |(
You might get lucky with the flashy modes, the first one I received had hidden strobe/SOS. (And then I returned it double |( !!)If you turn the light on in high mode, after around 3 seconds if it blinks then you have this. I think you turn it off as it blinks to get rid of SOS/strobe.
If you get tail cap issues, you need to unscrew the inside of the tailcap a little, preferrably place a washer underneath it so you get a strong electrical connection.
Should I buy from IO instead and replace the driver? (Can this be done? What driver size?) Or is the version without SOS/STROBE sold anywhere else?
Thank you once again!
EDIT: I’ve bought from IO and asked for refund from CNQG. I hope they send my refund asap… If the modes/driver cannot be changed, I’ll just have to live with it…
Nope, there’s no such thing. I managed to get the driver out without damaging the flashlight or the driver (not that I need it anyway). It’s fairly easy, cut or desolder the wires to the LED, and insert a screwdriver or something in the whole and start hammering gently. It will come out after a few hammering’s. It looks like the NANJG105 driver, modes can be changed by connecting the starts. But for this flashlight I’m gonna use KD 8x7135
