Modified LED bulb for home use

This is how I found this forum was in search home lighting modifications along with researching led hog lights.

I had purchased this led bulb a while ago and it was rated at 3W it is actually the button type leds and there is 3 1w leds on a 32mm aluminum board. It was not very bright and didn’t ever use it. I was reading a thread a while back and found the XML easy white leds and they are rated at either 6v or 12v. Also in that thread there were links to goodluckbuy where you could buy the 12v version for about $5. I purchase 2 in T5 warm white. Been thinking of how I could use them and it came to me today to try one in the bulb I was not using. With the origional leds install I measured the voltage and it was 10.2v so I thought heck take it apart and see what happens. I know usually these type ac to dc drivers usually have a range from 9v-12v sometimes and was hoping this was one of them. Pulled out the old leds and installed the new easywhite 20mm board and fujiked it down and installed in a light socket. To my surprise it worked! Now just as all things flashlight/led related I am waiting for darkness to set upon us.

Here are some pics of the disassembly and and finished product.

Origional setup

with led board removed - note there are multiple holes under the old board - just so happens that there are two perfectly setup for the new led board

with the body seperated so that the wire can be ran to different holes

view from the bottom - the walls are somewhat thick, well more aluminum then i figured there would be.

base assembled and wires ran through the correct holes

XML T5 easy white 12v installed

When I tested it out it was not outrageus bright but its probably only getting about 300ma-350ma so was not expecting much but its got a absolute wonderful color!

Thanks for sharing. Food for thoughts.

Thats awesome.
I have wanted to do something like that for a whole but the led bulbs I have are all glued.
Great stuff. TY.

Not a thing to do more than once.
You may want to measure the current. The bulb is probably 4W now, therefore a little brighter.

Here are some pics of bulb installed. The silver one has also been modified I removed all of the cool white/blue tint leds and replaced them with warm white, that was a nice improvement with that light. It is a 5w version (5 x 1w).

In comparing the two they are real close to the same brightness, they are both have nice color. Just have to figure out how to pump that new gold one up to 700ma - 1000ma and it still be inclosed in the same bulb.

I have more ideas!!

Thanks

I think it turned out well not super bright but very functional.

Really that’s awesome…Can i use other than XML T5 easy white 12v. Does they provide enough brightness?
