I know that the XinXD and Kai C8 versions are highly regarded here but I am attracted by the shorter profile of the Ultrafire C8 as shown in the 22nd post of this thread:-
I was wondering if I could get the ebay UF C8 seeing that it’s a really good deal and then get the xm-l drop-in and OP reflector from Kai. It will end up perhaps ard $3-$4 more than buying the KD C8 (Item S009844) directly but I would have the shorter UF body, 2 reflectors and 2 drop-ins (of which one would be the 3-mode version rather than the 5-mode version in Item S009844).
Anyone knows if they are compatible or are there any differences in the body quality, threads, switch etc that I should be aware of?
I have a number of c8’s and I find them legoable but the only q5 I have is the MCU Tmart one. There are a few Ultrafires around (likely fakes) so they could be different. Are they really that much shorter?
Thks for the response, edc. Are your C8s all from the same manufacturer (eg Ultrafires) or are they a mix? As for yr question, from the post I referred to, it does seem like there is a noticeable difference in length but u r right in that even different ultrafires may be different in size.
I guess not many people have both the lights I was referring to so I may not take the risk until I have done more research
My Ebay C8 Q5 in that photo (second from the left) is a clone, and nowhere near the body quality of the real Ultrafire. The anodising is more like black paint, and the real one feels more substantial. Still, not a bad torch for <$10.
I haven’t tried leggoing it with the others.
They are arranged L-R in order of subjective quality or desirablity…
Mind you the 3C tint in the XinTD V3 C8 is a revelation…
Thanks for clarifying. I guess it is going to be difficult determining who sells the real Ultrafire C8. Given the poorer quality of the cheaper clones, i might just stick with the KD version (or the XinTD version if I feel rich!).
As for the drop-in (if i had decided to go for the Ultrafire clone), i was considering this 3-mode version from Kai:
It is the copper version and the 3-modes, high-low-strobe, is ideal for me (strobe mainly for cycling). If i end up getting the KD C8, then i would not be getting the 3-mode since i would already have the 5-mode. A pity they don’t sell the 3-mode with the copper pill and the OP reflector.
