Ultrafire UF-H4 XP-G R5 at Manafont

Reflector version (H31 style) 1 or 2*16340, probably 1*17670 also.

Resist.....nah, I will try one out!

Niice.

It says it won't take an 18650, but I see no reason why a 17670 shouldn't fit and work.

But I don't need any more headlamps.

I don't.

Honest!

Agree, very true for me too.

But then, fortunately (or was it unfortunately?) this is not entirely a question of need!

Last time I checked, I had:

Zebralight H30 *2

Zebralight H31

Zebralight H60

Magicshine P7

Noname Q5 14500 Zoom *2

Petzl Tikka *3

Petzl Tikka XP

Primus Halogen

Ultrafire UF-H1 *2

Ultrafire UF-H3 *2

Ultrafire UF-H3D

Not too many is it? I mean it only makes 18 with the UF-H4.....

I can only assume you have a remarkably large head. I've never managed to get more than 6 on my head at any one time ;)

But why not. I own something like 140 lights, who am I to mock anyone else's choices.

My choice. "I'll take them all" :)

Don, you made my cat jump up and run out of the room when I burst out in laughter reading your line! Still giggling...

I have not dared to count my flashlights.....But I know that I have 132 Li-ion batteries Wink

I certainly don't own that many lithium cells though probably at least as many AA NiMH. :)

At present i own 2 decent li-ions from sony. 3 POS trustfakes which i have to dispose. hi-max on the way. The 5 i got were "robbed" off me almost instantly. :) And 18 AA's rechargeable whic i don't use much at all. Do i need to catch up? :P

Yep, You need more batteries, I have many more Ni-mhs than Li-Ions. Been years since I last used a alkaline battery.

Hmmm! Bring on the 1xAA version of this light and I'm sold!

"Battery Configurations:CR123 x 1 , CR123 x2, 17670 x 1"

According to http://www.ultrafire-shop.net/UltraFire_Shop.php?view=productPage&product=90&category=10

Received mine. Barely fits grey Ultrafire 17670 batteries. Most RCR16340 are a no go, AW 16340 fits fine.

SMO reflector gives better throw than the Zebralight H31. Pulls about 0.8A from a freshly charged battery.

Same UI as the newer versions of the Ultrafire UF-Hx series, click and hold for ramping (this one is faster tough) or double click for SOS.

Greased threads and GITD o-ring at lens.

Quite long in both 16340 and 17670 configurations, longer than Zebralight H31, H60 and UF-H3.

No magnet in tailcap.

How is flood compared to the UF-H 1/2/3 ?

This light is no "flood light", the overall beam is even narrower than the Zebralight H31. There is a bright hotspot in the middle. The other UF-HX lights are "all flood"

Hello there. Don kindly pointed out to me that this UF-H4 exists. I'm interested in it, and I hope some owners of it can answer a few questions for me:

- does anybody have any beamshots?

- on high, does it illuminate decently well up to around 10-15 m? (I want to use this light in the yard for skunk-finding and poo pick-up. I'm currently using a $6 zooming headlamp from DX, which works acceptably well but the switch is too easy to activate accidentally in my pocket)

- does the light feel big in the 2x cr123/17670 configuration?

- what's the runtime with a single 16430 and with a 17670?

- How awkward is it to use this light for reading in bed? Would I have to cover the lens with my hand while I ramp the light down to low (as low as I could guess at), and if I overshoot, I'd keep holding down the switch until I can take another guess at low? And how many seconds would that take? Or, if the lowest low is really low, I wouldn't mind being within a few percent of the lowest low.

Another question I had was how easy it would be to accidentally switch it on in a pocket, but upon further thinking, I think it would be okay in my jacket pocket because the switch is at the end of the light, and the light would sit horizontally in my pocket, so there wouldn't be much chance of it turning on with an accidental bump from my hand or another object in the same pocket.

Yes it illuminates well at 10-15 meters, longer also. Runtime (high mode) with 17670 is more than one hour. You can unscrew the tailcap a little to prevent accidental switch on (looses memory and goes to high tough).

For reading, I would recommend the other UF-Hx flood models instead.

Thank you CathastrophiX. It all sounds good, but I'll wait til more people get this light and review it, and hopefully post some beamshots. I don't like overly tight beams on headlamps.

About reading: I only want to buy one of these headlamps, so if the non-reflectored ones can't illuminate 10-15 m away, I'd have to get a reflectored one like this UF-H4, even if the beam isn't perfectly suited to reading.

peteybaby:

You should take a look at the Trustfire Z1: 1xCR123 or 1x16340, 3 modes (high-low-strobe), smooth reflector and much cheaper. DX is not working at this moment, buy I think it is around 17usd.

Thanks for the tip, ezeqdb, but that Trustfire, although it sounds like a great deal, doesn't quite suit my 2nd need, which is reading in a tent without disturbing my spouse. I think 100 lm on low would wake her up. I like the Ultrafire because it can ramp down to a very low output. I also like that the Ultrafire can accommodate 2x 16340 or 1x 17670, for longer runtime and better grip when using as a handheld light.

I've discovered that the Surefire Saint Minimus has an output dial, which I want, but at $139, it's $100 over my price limit. :)
