Beginners misstake; bought LiFePo4's, what to do with them?

Hi my name is Henrik and I’m a flashaholic. I didnt know I was until I found this forum, but in one day I ordered not one but two lights, a UniqueFire C108 & a TrustFire Z8, charger and batteries. It’s simply impossible to resist JohnnyMacs Z8 review, and in person it is unbelivably cute.

But alas I made a rookie misstake, I didnt look at the voltage of the batteries I ordered for the Z8. I ordered Soshine 14500 LiFePo4’s, thinking 14500 batteries were the same. Who is this Volt anyway?

So I have two 3.2V batteries in AA form factor using weird chemistry that I can’t charge in my WP2-II, now my question to you is what do I do with them? I’d like to sell them but I don’t even know what they’re for.

Try to exchange them with li-ion 14500.

Sadly return shipping to China is so costly it’s cheaper to just buy new batteries. I’m more interested in what these are for, lights, RC-toys…?

Keep them.
You just need a charger that is LiFePo4 compatible. Many high-end RC chargers for Lipo have options for LiFe also, or you can manually program a different cut-off voltage.
They are good batteries and you can use them in flashlight application.
Actually they are in many ways better than more common Li-ion cells, no memory, no overdischarge damage, no fire or explosion hazard, just to name a few.

Just check that the voltage is within max limit of flashlight.
If for example the flashlight was ok with li-ion 14500 which are 3,7v each, you can use your LiFe14500 without problems. The slight lower voltage 3,3v is compensated by large availability of current from the cell so any good led driver will perform flawlessy.

+1. Cree LEDs will run on the lower battery voltage and so will many of the drivers but you will need a charger for them or they will eventually die. You’ve come to the right place to learn anyway. Welcome

Welcome aboard, Henke!

I have seen some rechargeable solar lights that use this chemistry.

Worth holding on too. Especially if your ever wanting a direct drive flashlight.

Wow thanks for the welcoming, this really is one of the most friendly forums I’ve come across!
And thanks all for the replies, that makes me feel better! I found some chargers on ebay, one hideous brown that seems to have a fixed US plug and one better looking “Litelong” brand.

Just drop them in my mailbox.
