Cree XM-L Tint Questions

Hi guys

I’m building a custom triple XML extension for my L2P and I’m having difficulties deciding on a tint for my XML’s.

I’ve got the famous Manafont UltraFire XM-L T6 drop-in, do anyone know which tints are generally found in these drop-ins?
A friend of mine has got a Sky-Ray 3800, and his light is slightly more blue than my drop-in. Do anyone know what tint is found in those lights?
I then ordered a XML T6 3C led, and I must say, I like the color very much, although it is a lot more “yellow” than the two mentioned above. I thought 5000K would be the same as the HID lights in cars, but in real life it is a bit more yellow.

My problem being, that the triple XML extension will not be used everyday, and will mostly be a flood light and a wow light. And to everyone I’ve asked to choose between the 5000K and the MF UF, they choose the MF UF drop-in.

So I have two questions:

  1. Is there any way of determining the tint of the LED in my MF UF drop-in?
  2. If I assume that the Sky Ray 3800 has got 1A LEDs, and my UF drop-in has got 1C/1D LEDs, then I want something between that and 3C. Something like 2C/2D. Has anyone got any idea where I can find/buy such tints, because I havn’t been ably to find any online :frowning:

Thanx a bunch!

The ultrafire is a 1-ish tint, and 3800 has 0 tints.

You need either a calibrated color reading (along with drive current) to determine precise tint, or frequency spectrum graph to estimate “temperature”. You can use your eyeballs to get these readings approximately, which is greatly assisted by comparing to known cree binned emitters.

I’ve never seen 2 tint emitters sold separately or heard of them specced as such in lights, and I only have one sample inside a sunwayman R20A “mom”/”dad” “neutral” edition light.

I’m also surprised when n00bs pick cool white over neutral. White is really only good for high contrast edges. Colors are poor and glare makes it using it annoying.

Thanx.

So no one knows where to buy 2A/2D bin XML’s?

For my edc L2P I will keep the 5000K 3C, I’m happy with the color rendering and tint of the light. But I think I need to look further for a wow tint LED. Something in the 5500-6000K range.

Cutter electronics have 2S tints in the 5700K range. I have used several and like the color reindition outside at night. Others may not though.
