My new Keychain light

From reading the glow keychain thread, xodus Innovations chimed in about there product. He doesn’t sell to canada but he was gracious enough to let me know which of his distributers that did. ThinkGeek.com shipping wasn’t free but to make it hurt less I bought two

After unpackaging one and removing the battery saver tag, then clicking the body together I noticed it had no fasteners on the outside. Feels sturdy enough small and thin. I’ll definitely be clipping this on my backpack zipper

The glow mode is visible just barely in a lit room and with the white cover gives a simple all flood appearance

And when you push the button you get what I believe is 8-10 lumens of flood

Fit and finish on the joints are quite well done, and I know my plastics (assistant foreman and mold setup at ProWestern plastics, before I quit to pursue carpentry)

Now if it just came in hi cri I’d give it 5/5 stars

All kidding aside it’ll be replacing a photonlight keychain I’d give it a 4.5/5

Here’s a shot in the dark

LOL thanks for looking

Thanks for the warm review, CarpentryHero. 4.5/5 is high praise, especially from anyone who makes a serious hobby out of lighting devices. I guess I do have to come clean and admit that high CRI was not a design priority, so you got us there. However, easy of battery replacement is always a key component of our product design. Our office walls are lined with dozens of competing products we’ve bought and tested, and one of the big conclusions we’ve reached is that we hate battery compartments with screws. Why make someone go get a screwdriver just to replace one CR2032?

I’m eager to hear about your experiences taking the fob out into the real world, especially if you encounter our prime use case of keys lost in a dark environment. Almost everyone who has one of these has told us that within a few weeks of clipping it on to their keychain it saved them a lot of trouble when they dropped their keys in a dark parking lot, restaurant, or lawn.

I’m going to compare it to my Tritium, hopefully it’s a similar brightness

As for the hi cri, that’s a flashaholic joke. Though if you do 660nm deep red, then I’ll need to buy a couple more

hahaha. I guess my humor is too dry for my own good. The CRI joke was not lost on me, but it appears that my attempt at a retort fell flat. I don’t know about releasing a Glowing Key Fob in red, but we might eventually release Mini LED Guide Lights in several colors, including a nice red.

Absolutely let me know how it compares to the tritium. There are supposedly still issues with importing tritium products into the USA, but I figure we’ll be competing with them eventually.

I’m not sure how many people even know what tritium is, so it’ll probably never be a huge competitor for you.
Sorry about the hi cri joke, old habits die hard.

There are a handful of diehard red led lovers, so if you sold something in the 640-680nm range of the spectrum peeps would be all over it.

Other things I’d like to see you make is a watch battery type which has the glow only feature. For zipper pulls, maybe one or two watch battery or hearing aid battery types in aluminum or nitrolon.

I’d also love to see you encorporate your glow mode on a full scale 18650 or 26650 light  I love ultra low lows

The tritium is a half as bright to my eyes.

That’s still really impressive for an led keychain. I’ve only seen one custom keychain be dimmer than the cheapy trits I buy.
And only one flashlight the Jetbeam RRT0 go lower.

Nice work

this is my mini.

Reporting in, it’s still glowing strong
