1. What do people use for the much-talked about grease for flashlight threads? (Does it conduct electricity? It would seem to me that conductive grease would be a must?)
2. Is this the same lube for the zoom mechanism, i.e. screw threads or zoom o rings?
I have been using some hugely expensive “nextorch” silicone grease that comes in a tiny eentsy little jar. It works super for a day or so, but then it actually causes the zoom o-ring to get sticky, which would seem to be the complete opposite of the desired effect. Then a week later, I open the light and the grease I spent so much time applying has completely disappeared.
Someone suggested furniture polish, which does work well, but I can’t help but think there must be a specific branded product for the true flashaholic who must keep his/her tool lubed and ready for action at all times!
Please give me a link or the exact name of the product and where you got it. Please. No sense me repeating the excellent price and product research that everyone has already done. And some of these products have names that are incredibly similar sounding/spelled.

Same here. Have that Nexttorch “goo”. When you apply it, it somewhat works, but not for very long time My Klarus came lubed with don’t know what, but I’ve used it quite many times since I bought it (Jan, this year) and it still works Nexttorch stuff looks “mate” when applied, Klarus lube looks “shiny”. So, I’m looking for a better lube too, don’t mind vaseline or whateva :bigsmile: Any relatively cheap suggestions? Thanks

With a 24D maglight you’r gonna need more than just lube! Back onto the topic of the thread I have been using Ballistol lube on my o-rings and threads(of the flashlights…really!) It is mostly used for firearms to prevent rust. I can make a Glock rust if not careful so I have a case of the stuff at all times. I’m sure there are better options but it’s what I have at this time.-Rick
I used to use the nextorch grease but it is very thick. Lately I’ve been using sewing machine oil with great results. A plus is it doesn’t get all gummy with aluminum oxidization.
I use a synthetic grease called “Super Lube” which I picked up from a local hardware store for about eight bucks after tax. It’s a bit pricey in comparison to some of the other commonly found lubricants (especially considering that I only got a 3oz tube), but I feel that it lubricates a little bit better than the cheap silicone grease that I was previously using.
I was about to post the same thing. It makes the threads feel like they’re finely honed instead of a gummy mess. It seems like dirt sticks to it less too.

That sounds great! On ebay, there are five different kinds. Can you tell us which one you used? I have some here some place, but I don’t want to use the wrong kind and have the paint fall off or something. Ebay has:
1. PERMATEX DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT TUNEUP GREASE
2. GM DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT-GENUINE GM PART 12377900
3. CorrosionX hi-tech lubricant penetrant anti-corrosive dielectric lube
4. Loctite Dielectric Compound 80ml Tube Tune-up Grease Lubricant
5. VSI silicone dielectric grease lubricant (this comes in a 5 pound can for $95, so it’s probably not this one).

Tried it too, but when it gets warm it flows like oil and gets all over everything. I suppose you could use a little dab?

Seems to be a lot of something called “zoom - out.” Could that be it?
Sorry to be so picky about brand names, but someone recommended “silicone grease” and that’s how I ended up with the nextorch stuff, which as some agree is pretty much useless unless you’re on a desert island and it’s all you have.

Have you tried the nextorch glop? Does it work better than that? But it is silicone grease, and that was what I was told to use.

Now that sounds like a potential winner …. although ALL of these have great promise if you guys say they work. But since this stuff is designed for o-rings, it could be the holy grail? Spray can might be a little wonky. Wouldn’t want to get oil on a lense, but I could spray it on a cloth.

INTERESTING …. If you read the description, it says: “creates a waxy film similar to Cosmoline.” I wonder if that’s the pleasant aroma? Does it smell like cosmoline? I love the smell of cosmoline.

But — MY GOD — I had no idea it was that expensive! What is it made from? Gold dust?
I’m going to poke around and see if someone packages a little vial of cosmoline. Cus that stuff stays where you put it!! If anyone has ever tried to get cosmoline completely off a vintage gun, they know how tuff it is to remove. BUT I also wonder if the led heat might vaporize it and get it on the lens/led?

I’ve been trying this out and seems OK so far.
It’s an aerosol spray I got from Jaycar (an electronics/hobbyist chain in Australia).
I originally bought it for my Mt bike sticky gear changers after it was recommended on MTB forums (Cuts through the crud and lubricates with a light/thin lube). Worked a treat.
Back of can says: “A highly efficient blend of NON-CFC solvents & contact treatment oil particularly for use where grease & oils have previously been used. The solvents removed hardened oil and grease leaving only a very thin film of protective contact treatment to prevent oxidation and reduce wear. Particularly suitable for use with contacts, switches & connectors.”
Think I’d still use O-ring grease for rubber though.
on all of my aluminium torches, I have stopped using the fancy Nyogel and resumed to simple petroleum jelly.
It just stays cleaner for so much longer, compared to the expensive and fancy Nyogel. I suspect Nyogel to be far more aggressive on the parental aluminium (regardless of the alloy composition); whether this is a result of chemical reactions or merely an abrasive effect I cannot tell.
Nexxtorch silicone lube is just fine when sparingly applied to O-rings in general, and to threads of plastic torches (UKpenlight, PELI mitylite etc.).
