Welcome to BLF, Alex. I’m not asking this to be funny or rude. I’m genuinely curious. Are you actually Chinese, or are you a westerner living in China? If your are actually Chinese, is Alex your real name? I guess where I’m going with this line of questioning is, do the Chinese people use western names often? If they do, is this a new trend or has it been going on for a long time?

If any of that was to personal, please forgive me and/or ignore the questions.

Welcome to the addiction, vstlighting!

Hi Cone, your question is fine for me, no worries. Well, the Chinese name is hard to pronounce for foreigners(e.g. Ye Shiwen), so the Chinese people who have to communicate with foreigners or use English in their work and life, they prefer to have an English name, it is just a symbol.

Thanks for the reply, Alex, as I was genuinely curious. I guess that makes a lot of sense from a business perspective. Plus you get to pick your own name instead of using the one your parents picked out for you. I mean, imagine being stuck with “Cone” your whole life.
