Tank007 TK-568 fake or faulty?

Hi all

Recieved a delivery from Manafont this morning. Among the items I ordered was a Tank007 TK-568. http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/tank007-tk568-haiii-7090xre-5mo...

It is supposed to be 5-mode as per their listing, but it appears to be single mode only.

I will of course contact them (when I've had time to check the other items I bought) but was just wondering if anyone here has thoughts to chime in with? Has anyone bought one of these from Manafont recently.

I searched the forums here and didn't find anything directly comparable, but this post https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/6576 mentions CN QUALITY GOODS as probably selling fakes. (Was to do with a tailcap issue though.)

I also found a blog here http://magos-biologis.blogspot.com.au/2010/01/tank007-tk-568-review.html that talks about DX selling a 1-mode that was listed as 5-mode.

Opinions folks? Faulty light or faulty advertising?

Thanks

Probably just bad advertising. I have learned to never trust their descriptions after I received a 3 mode light that had 1 mode which was strobe.

Batt too long/short? Have you tried 14500, alkie, other NiMh?

Thanks but the batteries are fine. If it was too short I wouldn't get contact or would expect it to flicker.

I have the extender tubes (2) - have tried it on 1, 2 and 3 eneloops. Also tried testing without the switch using multimeter lead. Just turns on and off - no mode changing.

It is bright enough for what it is, but for $17+ I expect it to have the modes as advertised. I really don't want a single mode light - not at this price anyway.

If it’s the same driver as the 566 one-mode it’s very efficient with 2 cells. 0.5A vs 2A with similar brightness. Makes for one of the best “cheap” 2AA’s.

Yes, my tailcap current readings put it at 2A with one freshly charged Eneloop and 0.66A with two. Certainly better efficiency but I was really after a Med and Low option in a 1AA format. I alrealy have several 2AA lights and this one was intended as a gift for a woman's purse.

(The Sky Ray S-A1 from the same shipment has 5 modes though and seems to be a very nice little unit.)
