Trustfire Mini-01 mod

I’m going to attempt my first modification on a flashlight.
I have a trustfire Mini-01 Review: Trustfire Mini-01 that i’m really pleased with. I have just ordered a second one so i can have a go at a mod on it.

I want to put an XM-L U2 into it, and i’m hoping i can get one mounted on a copper star.
Does anybody have any suggestions if/where i could get one(i think its a 16mm star, but it could be 12mm. Ill confirm it before i order), and what i would need to use to bond the star to the pill? There looks to be a sort of resin bonding the star to pill at the moment.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks, that looks perfect

Sounds like a grand idea to change the LED. I’m still tinkering on the idea to put in a smooth reflector to increase throw.
I would love to put in a copper star as well. I think DX is my next stop too!

Yeah, i didn’t want to butcher my Mini-01 without having a second one incase it all goes wrong
Any idea’s where to get a copper star? There is a place n Germany, but they only seem to have T5 XM-L’s.

DX sells copper stars you coul reflow the emitter onto.

I'm wondering what a Nichia would look like in the mini. Without the U2 being driven hard I dont see much gain to be had. The XP-G2 would be awesome in the mini as well.

pictures would be great. I don’t really know how much brighter it gets considering T6 and U2 are similiar around 700mA?

Not sure how much brighter the U2 would be, but the Mini-01 is pulling 2.4A from a Yezl 16340, and 2.9A from a Panasonic GCR18650CH. I’ve ordered a couple of AW IMR 16340’s which i’m hoping will see similar results to the Panasonic 18650 due to low internal resistance.
It will be like holding a hot Iron, but will be fun for short bursts

I think the DX copper stars aren’t copper anymore, i remember reading something on cpf about it. I’ll wait until the new Mini-01 arrives and look into it more.

How are you running it off of a 18650? Did you find an extension?

I just did it to test the current draw. The 18650 fits inside the head, so i was able to test it without the body attached.
