Deerelight Javelin Voltage Question???

Javelin Battery Voltage Question ?

I ordered a Deerelight Javelin with a XR-E EZ900 Q5 emitter, smooth reflector and extension tube. I just wanted to see how far I could throw with AA batteries. When I read the instruction sheet,(it looks like a standard generic form for the Javelin) it say “do not use rechargeable lithium 14500 batteries with the stock LED module.”. With the extension tube it is designed to take three AA batteries. I’m just a journeyman flashlight guy when it comes to electrical but doesnt 1.5v+1.5v+1.5v=4.5v
Am I missing something here. I have a C2H that takes 14500 and 16340’s and Deerelight says I can leggo together the heads and tails with each other.
Is this just an outdated warning that maybe missed something in the translation.

I did some quick tests and attached the C2H bodies on the Javelin head and ran a 14500 and 16340. It seemed to run okay and I didn’t notice any heat build up. I also ran the 2xAA tube with one 14500 and a blank dummy.

Am I going to hurt the LED module or should I ignore the manual as outdated?

When it says that it means not to run more than 1 14500. Your average person would go and put in 3 14500s if it said they were compatible. However it would probably best not to run it on high for to long to make sure there isn't to much heat build up.

When I tried it, there wasn’t any heat buildup at all, and that XR-E EZ900 Q5 emiter put out the purest white light I have seen.

Then it is probably fine. In the manual does it say you can use 3*AA or are you just assuming that? If it does then I'm sure it is fine.

Default Setting:
“With the default setting from the factory, you can use two 1.5v AA batteries. To use 3 X AA batteries, the optional extension tube is required.”

Battery Type: 2 X AA (Alkaline, Ni-Mh) or 3 X AA with extension tube.

Well, 3 NiMH’s are pretty much equal to a single 14500… so you shouldn’t have any problems using 1x14500 in that light, but make sure to watch it’s temperature - it may get quite hot.

so… how far does it throw?

I have had both the Javelin and the C2H on my radar for quite some time exactly because of their legoability but there are not many reviews around, and one I read complained about efficiency (short runtime). Maybe those were older models reviewed?

any insight is appreciated
