How do you guys measure Lux?

I know it’s with a Lux meter, but I’m curious on the exact technique used and what sort of meters? Are they just photography style light meters?

I ordered this.

I have read about this and my method will be:

  1. - put a large piece of black cardboard in front of a wall to minimise reflections which will increase the reading
  2. - put the sensor 2 meters from the cardboard
  3. - turn all lights off, try to block out as much light as possible
  4. - take down the reading of the ambient light
  5. - shine the light 1m from a height of 30cm
  6. - take reading, then subtract the ambient light reading to get the lux reading from the light.

That’s pretty much how I am going to do it, but I have to calibrate it first.
