This has been taking up a lot of my time lately, usually I take it to the empty parking lot at the beach that has about a 150 meter straight but this was just in the street.
In the video I’m driving it with a blown tyre and a broken steering arm and only going about half throttle at the most.
Ill try and take some speed run videos in the next few weeks (should do close to 100kmph) and when my mini HD video recorder arrives Ill try to get some on board footage as well.
This is the first video I ever edited, it took hours to do but I am happy with the editing results and Im sure Ill get better as I get more familiar with it but the quality (phone camera) is a bit poor.
I thought I would post here to share, I hope you like it.
So now I need set up suggestions, do you run an out runner or in runner, what speed control? What voltage pack? I have a few lithium flight packs, both 2s and 3s, I think they’ll fit the battery tray.
I also geared it down and fitted monster truck wheels and tires, these lasted a bit better than the soft buggy tires, think I’ll stay with this set up, it’s along the same lines as my Ho bao monster truck, based on the pirate buggy.
The motor is a in runner, its a 2840 4370kv HobbyKing branded one made for 1/10 cars and the ESC is a 60A Turnigy TrackStar also made for 1/10 cars and I am using a 3S Lipo. It takes 2-3 battery packs (about 20 mins per run) til the tyres blow, the fronts always go first but they are all cheap. I get the rims for 88 cents a pair and tyres $6 for 4.
It come with a 25A system that put out about 150-200 watts but the motor melted using a 3S lipo and I had to do a few mods to fit the big motor and ESC but the parts are dirt cheap and now its makes 500+ watts.
Its actually too fast and I rarely attempt to go full throttle, only twice so far at the big car park and its bit scary.
This is pretty much a $70 car with $40 of go fast parts, I guess I got out of it cheaply
I still have a Mauri Big Bear (Datsun monster truck) from when I was younger, that was the best of the best back then. I was thinking of retrofitting it but I decided against it as it would probably get destroyed.
I’m a longtime RC hobbiest, but grew tired of cranky nitro engines and spending $50 everyime I was in the same zipcode as the hobby shop for years and years.
I am interested in getting into the new electric brushless game. Can you guys post some links to all needed to make a crazy powered 1/10 (or slightly smaller) off-road budget ride?
There wasnt enough room under the body to fit the after market speed controller so I had to buy the body posts and shell, now it looks closer to this. There is only minor differences between the 2.
If you are going mostly on loose surfaces like gravel and dirt and grass I would think about getting one of these, its 1/10 scale and there is some videos of it here on the side of the HK review
There are more here , the short course trucks are mostly for off road as well. They wont handel as good as the others on the road but they fly over rough ground and thats something the others cant do well.
If I was to start again i would have just bought the Monster Beatle and then buy the Racing Buggy wheels for it, the motor and ESC I used I would use again but its probably too much for anyone with a itchy trigger finger, you have to be really careful because if you just floor it you will strip gears or end up with a diff full of metal powder if you dont learn how to control it. There is also a $5 programing card to suit the ESC that give you some options and you have to buy pinion gears to suit the new motor shaft but they are only about $1 each from memory. There is tons of aftermarket aliminium, titanium, carbon, carbon fibre etc parts for them its not funny, they are a copy of the Kyosho Mini Inferno and there is about 5 other brands that make identical cars. Or if you want to keep it cheap all the plastic spares at HK are around 40 cents to $2 with the exception of fully assembled diffs.
I would start with something stock though, it would really surprise you how well they got in stock form. Even the smallest one goes pretty hard for $49.
If you need help with any questions just send a PM, I don’t mind helping out.
Thanks, I cant wait to show you how not fast that was though
They are copies of the Kyosho Mini Inferno, I cant see the link as it asks me to log in.
Running 2.4ghz….way better then AM or FM………the new stuff out there now is just awesome. My setup will have a range of up to a mile away, that is if you can see it that far. No glitches and has a built in fail safe when range is lost. Works very well when racing and for bashing, as you can see i have the first gen rx’s the ones out now are even smaller.
