What's the Best $20 Flashlight in the World?

I slowly inching my way up the price points and as I lose the battle to keep the cheap flashlight addiction under control.

I usually prefer a smaller, slim, EDC style type flashlight, but I’m open to suggestions.

From reading threads and reviews here, I’ve assembled a motley list of likely candidates.

Truth be told, I’ll probably end up buying several of the different models on my list. I like a little variety and spice.

I am curious if some of the models are identical or very similar owing to their similar names.

Without further ado, here’s my list. I’d like to hear your thoughts on my list, and I’d also welcome additions.

UltraFire WF504B

KD C8 CREE XML T6 1000 Lumen 5-Mode LED Flashlight

FandyFire 2100 CREE XP-GR5

Lighthound AA Tactical Flashlight, Cree XPG R3 LED
Lighthound AA Tactical Flashlight, Cree XPG R5 LED

N-Light L2 CREE R3

PALIGHT C8 R5 LED 5-Mode Memory LED Flashlight – not crazy about 5 modes though.

Romisen RC-M4 II Neutral White 2-Mode LED Flashlight
Romisen RC-2R4 NW XP-G R4 Neutral White LED flashlight “1-Mode”

ShiningBeam C-mini Cree XP-G R5 Tactical LED Flashlight 280 Lumens (OK- it’s closer to $25, but with cheap/free shipping)

SKY RAY P-10 CREE R5

TrustFire XML C8-T6 5-Mode CREE LED 1000 Lumen Flashlight
TrustFire TR-801 Cree Q5-WC

Ultrafire C8 Q5 5 Mode Cree Led Flashlight with 300 Lumen Output $10.50 w/ free S&H- I might get two!)
Ultra Fire C8 T6 5W CREE 5-Mode 900LM White Light LED Flashlight
Ultrafire C8 Cree R5 3-Mode LED Flashlight
UltraFire WF504B

Maybe just a touch more money, but not by much, and this light really just doesn’t have any major flaws.

It’s SOLID

XinTD V3 NW 3-mode ... hands down.... best value for money on the planet. Every time I use this light, I like it more. Absolute showstopper in that form factor.

Well, aren’t you the crafty one? Wink

Is that a case of putting a $500 saddle on a $50 horse?

Are there any heat issues? Call me odd, but I don’t want a flashlight that gets too hot to hold after 3 minutes.

Yes it will get hot on high, but that is what medium and low are for.

For super bright, cheap and easy to EDC, get a UF2100 5 mode and a solarforce stainless clip – should be about $20 total.

What about the Balder SE-1? The XP-G version is $20, and should throw decently for a 1 AA light and be brighter with a 14500.

Also got my Keygos M10 for a bot more then $17 and that’s a nice light too.

I got a SF L2m and combined it with a Xml u2 drop in from ali express.( 3.3amp +) All up less than $24.
The best value would be the uf2100. Mine cost $15

The Thrunite TI is the only under $20 light I actually use these days.

If you double the budget and get a UF-T50 it will more than take the place of two $20 lights IMO.

It is perfect for that but not for a complete $20 flashlight.

I had seen a couple positive reviews on the Balder, but it didn’t seem to be as popular or as well liked as some of the other models.

I’d like to stick with an 18650 design if it’s possible. Some of the lights on the list use 123’s and I don’t want to have too many different types of batteries to deal with.

True, but solves the High “button” . . of course, there is the Turbo “button”. Smile

Seriously, we were talking about a $6 host, so the cost difference for your drop in over the manafont isn’t at all unreasonable.

Sooner or later, you're going to get a Solarforce.  If it's later, when you do get one you'll find yourself holding it and staring at it, then looking at everything you bought before, then looking back at your new Solarforce.

In some cases this epiphany can last several minutes and be quite profound.  Some people respond with repeated failed attempts to justify prior purchases while others, more comfortable in their own skin, accept it for the growth experience that it is.

Sooner or later, you will get a Solarforce.  We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

I agree ..I 've always questioned Ericks love for the 501A ..tI think the  solarforceL2m is a much nicer light  and about 4 $ more .. It does either one cr123/16340 or an 18650 too..all for 10$

Maybe I like mine because it has a original foybezel

Ask for it by name

I think the xiware L20C is a great light for the price .. It's 21.70 Stainless steel bezel , serious clip , nice tint ,  square threads , decently high pwm, 2 programable modes ,Ramping U.I.,Shortcut to low ,Micro clicky ..feels better than a zebralight clicky ..Very low, low ..1 lumen ...

It's the best 20$ light out there ...

Foy’s comments noted without disagreement. But I like my 501 because it seems more pocketable than my SF 18650 L2 (don’t have an m).

Sometimes you gotta save pennies somewhere . . better it’s a host and not the drop-in. Besides, an extra host is also a spare battery holder.

Several months ago I bought the Ultrafire 501A host that Manafont sells for $5.89 after it was recommended by E1320 (Erik).

I was amazed how much better made it is that my other Ultrafire P60 hosts.

I also own a nice new Solarforce L2M.

The 501A is just enough smaller than the L2M that I often drop it into my pocket instead of the L2M.

Both are fine gear and both can be used with any P60 module, whether cheap or expensive.

Drat, Now Boaz has me doing a search about that xiware L20C……I should have gone to take a nap. Smile

The UltraFire C8 U2 from here: C8-U2 at $16.50. It's a U2 running at 3.0-3.2A on a good battery, great reflector. Reviews: here1 and here2.

In the 2nd review, rdrfronty measured 871 lumens OTF!! I got one, it's very bright, great throw, running an EagleTac 3100 or Panasonic unprotected 2900.

You gotta consider this light in a short list for one of the best at/under $20.

OK, so far it looks like I’ll need to buy a UF2100, one of the hot rodded Ultrafire 501’s and a Solarforce L2M. And maybe one of those Balder thingamabobbers, and quite possibly an Ultrafire C303.

Then I’ll stop. I swear.

What should I list my disabilty as?
