I purchased what was advertised as an XP-G R5 to replace the XP-E in my iTP RO1. After the long wait I received my order yesterday. When I took a look at my new LED I was surprised to find it looks identical to the LED currently in the light. I have the earlier version RO1, not the later XP-G version.
I started digging around here and found several posts to help identify various LEDs, it sure looks like and XP-E to me. The die has three distinct segments (not visible in the photo) and three dots around the die.
I sent an email to the retailer last night and to their credit they responded quickly asking for a picture. I have sent this one already but would like it if one of you more knowledgable folks could let me know if I’m correct.
Definitely an XP-E as Pok has pointed out, and you have correctly suspected. You can find some pictures of different LEDs here: Brightness Bins - Flashlight Wiki
Sorry to hear about your incorrect LED, Matt. I can see the 3 distinct segments in your xr-e. An xp-g will have 4 segments. Where did you order this from?
After seeing the picture they said “…we are clear that it is our negligence. So sorry about that.” Great right? But I’m not sure I understand the next sentence, “Would you mind to keep this wrong item?” I’m not sure what that means, I replied that I am specificly looking for an XP-G and have no use for the XP-E.
I understand that these things happen from time to time, it’s all about how the retailer handles their mistake.
If you return this wrong item to us and then we resend the XP-G to
you, it will take a long very long shipping time.
If you will keep the XP-E, we will give you 20% off. you could just
send us$5.72 to our paypal accout. then we will resend the XP-G to you
at once.
Waiting for your confirmation.”
That makes this a $13 XP-G plus return shipping. I’ll reply when I get home from work today. Anyone know where I can find an XP-G or XP-G2 mounted on a 12-14mm star? I’m not quite ready to try re-flowing a bare emitter.
wow, I’m really surprised by that from KD, I’ve always had good CS with them. State clearly that they sent the wrong item and you want the right item, otherwise you’ll file a Paypal claim. Offer to send the XP-E back to them at their postage cost ($7-8 to HK/China I think). Everytime I’ve had to do this with eBay/Chinese sellers they either refund the money or send the right thing.
I’m surprised too, I’ve ordered from KD a half dozen times without issue, not happy with their response so far. I replied to their last email informing them I’ve found another supplier and requesting information on how to return the XP-E at their expense. I also told them I expect a full refund to my paypal account. I’ll file a complaint with paypal as a last resort.
