Brightest 2xAA cylindrical

What is the brightest 2xAA with a clicky, at least 2 modes and in a cylindrical shaped body (no enlarged head)?

Quark X AA2 Tactical?

Would you consider the Shiningbeam Caveman a enlarged head?

If you want to mod something, the Novatac Classic AA is one of the best looking 2xAA I have seen but the emitter is ancient/inefficient.

I have the jetbeam BA20 which gives 270 lumens with 2xaa…. but it is no longer manufactured…

The only available one similar to that is this

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/klarus-p2a-cree-xpg-r5-led-flashlight-2aa-p-8150?rp=89597

It should give between 245 and 270 lumens, because it performs equal than the jetbeam, and it is not expensive

Since I come from a single AA with 200 OTF lumens (Zebralight). 270 or 280 lumens from 2 x AA to me is considered anemic.
I have seen the Crelant V21A with rated 450 lumens but just not sure if that is true. If not then what’s the real output? And is there anything brighter?

That Spark looks goog but a bit awkward to hold.

What would be the real output on Eneloop for this 2xAA Solarforce

I have that Spark light, it's 300lumens. I does not have a reflector so the light very very diffuse, some might not like it, but for a work light is awesome.

It the user manual it is mentioned not to use 2*14500 because 8.4V could damage the light, they say:

One 14500 li-ion + a fake cell or 2*IFR14500 (LiFePO4)

It depends on the dropin you choose. I have made good experiences with SolarForce 0.8-4.2V XP-G single mode, which was advertised as 320 lumens, back then. Now, of course I have no idea about the real output since I am lacking the proper equipment, but I can say this:

output of the “Mini M@gLite LED pro +” is officially rated at 245 ANSI lumens.
The Solarforce XP-G dropin, however, is noticably brighter than the M@glite.

Runtime on my old L2r is about 80-100 minutes, IIRC.

I used to own a Solarforce L2r with the XP-G low-voltage Drop-In and would rate it about 160 lumens on 2 Eneloops.
My comparision included the ITP A4 EOS running on 2*CR123 wich is rated 160lumens by the manufacturer and the Solarforce was equal in output, the beam pattern of the lights differ though.

I kept the Drop In and use it with a 18650 right now, that’s a huge difference I can tell you.

definitely not true! a quark X does ~400 before stepdown. that’s about the limit for this form factor. if you keep restarting the quark immediately after stepdown after 10 mins it’s unacceptably hot already

Just curious but I looked up and down and could not find anything official that says the Quark does 400? Can you give a link?

Look here. It actually does 450 lumens.

That has quite enlarged head.

I used to use 2x 14500 in my L2r (that one you linked to isn’t a l2r, it’s a L2 with 16340 extension which is going to be subpar for AA’s). These are the SF dropin’s that’ll support the voltage: solarforceflashlight-sales.com

Not sure what you’re really looking for.

But the one you linked to is not 2xAA ?

The ShiningBeam Spark is a very nice light, and can also be used in 'mini' config with a CR123 (or 16340)

self-builts review (very objective) put it up at about 400 lumens before step down. That thing is bright. Its up on his website. After step down about 300 lumens. Ive reset the stepdown with no issues before though it does get hot.

What Zebralight do you have?

Also I think 200 real lumens from 1AA is pretty unusual, if the Zebralight really managed this, then it’s got to be fairly unique in the market place. Most other 1AA lights are more like 120-140 lumens.

Afraid my knowledge of Zebralights is quite small. When they say 200lm is that to ANSI FL1 standards or is it just a boost mode for the first 30 sec or so?

As far as my knowledge goes, it’s all about the available power. 2AA is only 2.4v on Eneloops, although a good mAh rating. But from my observations this means most 2AA lights on equal or are behind a 1xCR123A.

with this extender:

Nothing much brighter in that configuration!

This is the Q5 version:

Really nice and versatile light.
