Aliexress and Fedex

I made an order from a seller in Aliexpress, who offered me free shipping to Greece, with EMS.
EMS is fine for me because it is fast and has a good behaviour in GR customs.
Unfortunatelly, the tracking number seller sent me was Fedex. I asked him and said he was sorry and that he declare the item’s value at 60$. My next move was to ask him to cancel the tranaction but he told that it would cost him a lot to cancel and If I face custom charges, to “talk” that with him.

How annoying is that?
Does Aliexpress has a descent buyer protection?
What would you do in that case?

Did you order any batteries? (I ask because LithION international shipping has become increasingly difficult these last months, and especially these last several weeks from the PRC…)

I didn’t order batteries and the value of the shippment is declared 60$.
The law here is 45 euro for non comercial goods and 22 euro for commercial goods.
I hope they don’t charge me, since it is a small package.

I guess the real question is: how much is the actual value of the merchandise ?

The real value is 142$.
The real question is why did seller choose a usually more expensive shipping service, without asking me first.

If he upgraded your shipping at no extra cost I wouldn’t bother about it.

You can’t really cancel an order once it’s shipped.

There was Fedex as a shipping option and I chose EMS, how simple was that for me and the seller???
It is not an upgrade, they were both free. I will inform you about how this will end.

It was probably more convenient or perhaps it was cheaper, either way its a question for him.

Total fee in custom: 140 usd
My suggestion: return the parcel and resend with airmail
Seller’s suggestion: he pays 75% of the amount and I pay the rest.
He claims that returning the parcel and resenting it is way too expensive.
Dead end or what?

Edit: checked again the invoice and the total cost is 170$, seller offers to pay the 100.

Well, I feel that 25%(140) = $35 customs fee is reasonable, considering your items costed $142.

The seller's taking a big loss at reimbursing $105 of to you, for the tax that you should pay in the first place. Remember even if the shipment is regular airmail, there's no guarantee it will escape tax anyway, you may end up paying similar price even after resend.

The reason of the problem is that FedEx has it’s own custom employes, who make all the actions needed to clear the item from the customs.
The tax I have to pay for this item is around 70$. The rest is handling & brokerage fee. If I was living near the airport, I could avoid the 100$ and pay only the 70$, which is the taxes for importing the goods.

I have been shopping for years and the truth is that I try to avoid paying the value of the parcels as taxes and brokerage fees. Do you pay them?

From my pov, paying 170 usd for a parcel which costs 140 has no logic.
I really don’t know what to do and FedEx charges me storage fees from today, every day.

After reading that, just pay the tax… you should have expected to when you bought it anyway.

Its not going to make everything better but at least its the right thing and you aren’t part of the cause of causing your economy to collapse.

If you are buying $140 worth of flashlights in the middle of the biggest depression your generation has faced then I don’t think you are too bad off.
