I’ve finally hit the point where I’m not really lusting after any lights that I don’t have. Instead I’ve sort of settled into the fun of modding my existing lights and experimenting with P60 drop-in builds. But I’m starting to miss that feeling of having an awesome new light on the way.
At this point I’m really only interested in the sort of unique but groovy (yes, I said “groovy”) lights I might have overlooked, or lights that are clearly superior replacements (in a practical sense) for some of the ones that I already have. On a budget of course
Any ideas?
EDIT: FWIW, lights that I wouldn’t buy again if I had to build rebuild my collection from scratch: UltraFire KF-T60 (decent light, but you can get better for the money), Jacob A60 (it’s cheap, but it’s really cheap), Sky Ray SR-5 (many people like this host, but I’d rather have another Solarforce), UltraFire 502b (nothing really stands out about it, just a cheap generic host really), TrustFire Z6 (nice finish, but loses way too much light in throw mode), Sipik SK96 (just terrible). As for the SK68’s, I’d get a few UltraOK ZS-2 clones and forget about the rest.
Now that’s tempting. Especially since ThruNite currently have a special on the T10 with a free Ti for $29.99.
Usually either one of my SK68’s, my TrustFire Z8 or my Zebralight SC600. It’ll change depending on circumstances. The Zebralight is easily my favourite of that bunch, although I rarely need the amount of light it can pump out on high. It literally freaks people out that little puppy. Something about a light so small having no business being that powerful I guess
No, not yet. But I’m pretty sure at this stage I’m going to end up putting an XP-G2 3D in it. I hate XM-L’s in small zoomies because of the large size of the projected die. But that’s just me. I just have to get one onto one of the 14mm mpcb’s I have first.
While I’m sure that would be fun for at least a little while, I pretty much never use my Sky Ray King, because I never need that much light. I like it, but it’s mostly just a novelty item with a big wow factor.
Speaking of moving on though, the one area that I feel I might be lacking in is a no nonsense serious thrower. Gonna have to leave the budget realm for that I guess.
I am understand how you fill, im in that same boat.
Maybe a Small Sun C10. One stop throw shop.com states that theres will do 107k with a neutral xpe driven at 1.4a. Maybe put a better lense and beef up the pill and see if you can build a super thrower for budget?
That’s a bunch more lights than I have or want. I think I hit the same wall and still have interest in these directions, besides adding a few bargains/winners here or there.
Small, handy, long lasting when undervolted, cheap or super cheap
Photon/fauxton (rechargeables, colors, shapes)
REAL throwers, cheap is relative
Arc light, HID, Very large aspheric?, Super large reflector
Indeed. It’s the LED you really want in a torch when you’re not playing games anymore. Properly driven of course. I have wanted one for a while. But I think something decent would be too big of an expense for me to be able to justify, especially when I’d probably only ever use it just to bask in it’s glory.
Or have I overlooked something really decent in the budget arena? Even an Ultrafire RL-3328 is around $200, and I’ve encountered some talk of reliability issues with that one.
EDIT: Obviously the TrustFire X6 is considerably cheaper, but I find myself at serious odds with the aesthetics (not to mention the length).
EDIT2: The TrustFire TR-J10 looks interesting, but it doesn’t look like it would throw nearly as well.
