Typically when I turn my flashlight on I use it for..... (this much continuous use)

If I’m outside, up to an hour. Inside, less than 3 minutes.

Voted 20-40 mins.

All of the above. Sometimes for a blackout, walking around the house, walking around at night, cycling anywhere from 30mins to 2 hours (at night).

I think for many this is a hard one to answer.

Typically if I go into a cave I use a light continuously. When I take out the garbage I use it for just a few minutes. When I walk around an (urban) lake at night I use it only if something needs to be checked out.

If I’m using a headlamp working on something in my house I use it only for a few minutes at a time. If I’m hiking at night I use it continuously.

It’s a hard question to answer.

Usually seconds, as im mostly not actually “Using” the light. When I do “use” a light, its for the task, so its task dependent. (minutes if hand held, up to a few hours if on a headband)

Voted for the first option

regular use: a few seconds and mostly because I lost something (actually: everything, always)

Sorry I didn’t really think about how difficult it might be to answer this, although I can fully understand what you are saying.

I was just curious, as a non professional flashlight user myself, I find I mostly only use my lights for very short duration at a time (although often and frequently  ).

But I’ve been reading quite a few reviews/comments on Mag and Led Lenser lights recently and a common trend is a dislike to their form of regulation where it steps down after ‘x’ mins, even though turning the torch off/on again will reset this step down (doesn’t the EagleTac G25 do something similar in it’s default configuration?). So I was just wondering how much of an issue this step down might be for people?

Typical aka nightly use is 8 hours continuous usage on either moonlight/low mode as night lamp. 4 out of 5 times its on low mode though.

A few seconds to 2 hours.

A few seconds to 3 minutes max. We don’t get power outages anymore nowadays. :weary:

Um… all the above?… depending on how long I need to see to get the job done.

?

You guys missed the point…He says ‘typically’ meaning most of the time….

So I think OP means ‘most of the time.’

Absolutely. “Typically” is the key word here and I had to chose option #1.

I use my lights for ALL kinds of things. So for me I don’t really have a typical time-span for use. I bounce light off the wall almost every night when I read before bed (so I don’t keep up my wife). Above the bathroom mirror are 6 old fashioned, unfrosted incan light bulbs that generate a LOT of heat that I dont want. So I’m likely to turn on the ceiling fan and ceiling bounce a flashlight when I use the shower. I work from home a lot and am on the PC 99% of that time. I find its easier on my eyes to turn off all ambient room lighting, and just crack open a curtain from across the room. So the room is mostly dark and I prefer to use a flashlight to get around the near-dark house.

Of course I only need 4-5 seconds to find the key holes at night, and other shorter duration tasks. So for me it really is an “all of the above” option.

Typically, when I turn my flashlight on I use it...

in combination with my weaponry until all the monsters in the vicinity are dead.

3 minutes max, for the win. :p

A few seconds to 3 mins.

The only other times (recently) was when I was would tail stand one in the bathroom to shower because the light in there was blown.

I left it that way for a few weeks purposely until I bought more globes because I got satisfaction out of using my lights for something useful :stuck_out_tongue:

Its hard to say actually, it depends on what is the situation.

All the above ? 8)

A few seconds, to 3 minutes max. I really never use a flashlight unless there's a power outage and I can't remember when that happened, it's been years.

me RL experience:

few seconds to three minutes, at the most, usually.

about a dozen times, annually: 10-20 minutes continual use

about less than half a dozen times, annually: 2 or more hours of continual use (low or mid. For everything which would be needed on high for that long, there are either replacement cells readily at hand, or even better, a portable generator running off diesel or petrol fuel).

Depending on the job, between 10 seconds and all day. 8) I use my lights mostly at work under vehicles or in dark spaces in buildings, so it could be checking a belt and hose run on a service, a minute or so, fitting a compressor and mount kit in a dingy workshop (up to six hours on and off, c8 in head strap and jm05 clone/keygos m10 as area lighting). I did some probe calibrations the other week, one area is over a cold room, with a 1m access hatch - no ambient light, I was in there for a good hour, I think my workmate could see me drooling when he said “you’ve got the fancy lights, you’ll have to do it……” 8)

I ceiling bounce my underdriven uf-v3 on low for baby duties in the night, wait for dark before I take the bins out… :8) yeah, possibly, I find jobs for the lights, rather than use the lights for necessary jobs. 8)

So, all of the above, or to be accurate “i turn my lights on for as long as necessary, then turn them off to preserve power in case I need it. ”
