BLF was a AA forum when I joined and the advent of the xml made many great AA lights look weak and pale in comparision. But i'm a purist .i'll take a sweet AA light over almost any other light out there .

The xenos e03 is also pretty good, and the least expensive light I would buy in this category for frequent use. Even better with a 14500, but the xp-g is a better choice without lithium power. The truth is that paying a bit more for a premium light is worth it for 1AA EDC since the budget options all have pretty terrible driver efficiency.
Are you counting 14500 lights as AA? Personally I’m not sure I see them as the same thing. An RCR/CR123 and 14500 are closer than AA and 14500 IMO. Well in terms of output/performance.
Perhaps you should be a little more specific in your criteria. Single AA lights only? 14500 cells excluded or included? Depending on your reply it could drastically change everyone's top 5 picks.
The only AA lights I have are a couple of SK68’s and a Mini MagLite
Got a 14500 Trustfire Z8 which I really like but it won’t run on AA’s so personally I don’t consider it an AA light despite the fact they’ll fit in the battery tube.
