Sensen Struts-Tell Me Your Thoughts

Thinking about getting a set of Senson struts put on my daughters 2001 Honda Civic EX. Anyone have any experience with this brand? Will they work fine and be about equivalent to Gabriel or Monroe?

I'm seeing these mentioned quite a bit lately on Euro forums as a low-cost replacement option, with mostly good reviews. I cannot provide any info on the Japanese applications, since I don't come into contact with them regularly.

They are often noted to be a bit stiffer than the OEM solution, so any worn bushings or mounting brackets may need to be addressed at the same time. I would go with a known brand on these other items, IMO (e.g. KYB.)

I’ve not heard of them myself, but as chix says, if they are stiffer than normal, their going to show any other weak links in the chassis. Tbf though, if there are other weak links, regardless of what struts you fit, these weak links also need addressing. The bitch is is makes the job more expensive, the honest truth is, your considering replacing the struts because they are worn for safety reasons, so why not do the other likley worn bushes and tie rods at the same time? My experience nowadays is 4 x 4’s and I use them properly, so my first step is to rip out all the old bushes and fit polyurethane, if the springs sag, then new springs and shocks and new possibly longer brake lines. It’s my family at risk, so I just suck it up.

Sorry for the lack of help on the shocks, this is just an over view from someone who uses their suspension harder than average.

ILF, I am always very sceptical of the ultra cheap parts but with that said I couldnt find any complaints other than the “sometimes stiff” comments. The company has been around a while and if there were any consistant problems with them then a google search would have revealed that.

If it’s a cost issue then I say go for it. Worn out shocks and struts make for a scarry ride :). Are you able to switch cars with her for a couple of days while you test them out?

If it were me I would do a little more reseach maybe on rockauto or a similar sight for a name brand solution since it is on your daughters car. If it were my daily driver/beater I would probably give them a shot.

Well thanks for the help. I may go a better route. I’ll let you know what I end up with.

I ended up buying a set of 4 Monroe-Matic Plus struts from Amazon. Cheapest place I found for the price. I saved quite a bit of money than buying here locally.

Sweet, i think my son is about to get a car from his mom and im sure that this will need to be done.

These struts would have cost me right at $380 with tax here locally at Orielly Auto Parts. I paid less that $251 shipped from Amazon. That’s about $130 in price that stays in my pocket.

ILF, dont you mean that’s about $130 more to spend for your favorite hobby

Yea I’m thinking about pulling the plug on a Electro-Lumens search and rescue SST-90 flashlight. But I don’t know. I may just buy the TN-31 on sale. But I already have the L3 Illumination K40.
