New Member, hoping BLF is better than CPF

Been a lurker here for a while, and due to my being perma-banned from CPF, decided to finally register here.

Really got tired of all of the stupid rules and petty moderators at that site, and when I voiced my opinion in a sarcastic manner, I was instantly perma-banned. There was a thread where people were posting when they got their first flashlight, how many they currently have, and their age. I thought it was a pretty cool thread because I always wondered how old other flashaholics were. Shortly after the thread started a moderator came in and edited everyone's posts and said posting your age was not allowed for fear of identity theft. I poked a little fun at the mod by saying I had missed that on the nightly news. Got banned for that, then went to CPF marketplace and complained, which resulted in a perma-ban from both sites. Pretty funny to be perman-banned for that IMO!

I have been a member of many, many forums over the years and have NEVER been banned, let alone perma-banned. Its pretty funny for something so insignifcant.

Hopefully things are different here?...

I am more into budget lights (solarforce, ITP, DX stuff) than high-end lights anyway, so I think I am better off here!

Welcome motodeficient!  BLF is  a great place.  You don't have to worry about the silliness like some "other" site.  In actuallity, we're pretty much self moderated here....and usually off-topic threads turn into some of the best ones.

Btw, congrats on the double-perma ban!  Some here wear it like a badge of honor Tongue out.

By reading that all i can safely say you found the right forum.

Welcome. Feel free to discuss anything you like. We do bunget lights mostly, there was some deviation in form of knives recently but we close one eye if expensive flashlights are being discussed.

Just kidding, if you like expensive flashlights there is just one issue. Many our members don't own very expensive flashlights so informations from 1st hand may be lacking.

Glad, to have you here, motodeficient. You have found the right place. I don't like bashing CPF because I think their sheer size forces them to moderate their forum heavily, even if they frequently go overboard. But I do like that BLF can be friendlier and more personal. That said, the downside is it can be really hard finding information in old posts here because the threads do go off-topic. But I don't mind the trade-off and Mr. Admin does a good job of making sticky posts so good information isn't lost. Plus Google has really indexed this place and BLF discussions pop up pretty high in search results.

There are a lot of people here with a few higher end lights, they just aren't exclusive about them. I feel like budget lights need more discussion just because they tend to have more problems and good information about them is harder to come by.

The really funny thing is, you can view anyone's age on CPF by clicking on their username.... It even says the following when you register there:

"Your date of birth and age are displayed in several places on the forum."

But you are not allowed to post your age, thats against site policy....

Message from "you know who":

"You were banned because you didnt obey all my rules. If I toss a flashlight off a bridge then you had better dive after it! Oh, and I do have a very pretty face! Men look into my eyes and fall in love because Im so beautiful. My behind is very cute too, but Im sure you already noticed that. If you send me $1000 I will reinstate your account, but not until you post a bunch of comments about what a nice lady I am and how sorry you are for challenging my supreme authority."

I don't want to turn this into a CPF bashing fest (well, maybe I do) but I am just glad others share the same opinion as me. This is the message I get when I try to log in, its awesome!

"You have been banned for the following reason:
Banned, until sufficient reason is offered indicating acceptance of our youth's protection

Date the ban will be lifted: Never"

There is no negotiating with an egotistical dictator with massive social deficiencies.

We are happy to have you here with us. Just curious, did you try to create another login at cpf?

Yes, I have. Once I get three posts I will decide which direction to go in. Either email administration and have an actually intelligent discussion about the obvious oxymoron with that particular site policy, or, and this is what I am leaning towards, write and post an essay describing in detail how I plan to accept the lead role in the protection of CPF's youth.

This should allow me to go out in one final blaze of perma-ban glory.

I found this site because of the 3 posts message... I posted twice there and never had the energy to post the third - the banner always sends me away. I think I was perma-bannered Foot in mouth....

I wouldnt even waste your time with it. The mods have nothing better to do with their time other than troll the threads trying to enforce hypocritical policies as they see fit. (You will never win) At least your IP wasnt blocked... not that it ever stops me in the least. There are a lot of good intelligent people on the forum and its another great resource for information. Ive mostly stopped contributing there and use it only for fact finding.

Someone over there either seriously misunderstands COPPA or needs to adjust his or her meds. Anyway, welcome to BLF from me as well, motodeficient. Smile

I was never much of a CPF regular and I used to mostly lurk there, but I can say with certainty that this is a much friendlier and more laid back place. I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Ha! Been waiting for you-knew we were gonna see you come over here! Cool I saw the thread that got you banned. Warm welcome! (I'm richpalm over there)

I am also tired of the Ministry of Truth sending everything down the memory hole and the little Hitler complex of the stormtroope.... er... moderators. Kestrel especially. And it is getting worse. I got axed for a few days last week over some global warming fraud comment.

And they don't like us poor folk with our just-as-bright, real-world priced, lights. If you're an FRG (f***in' rich guy) you're in.

I still post when I'm aggravated enough and use the good U.S. dealers for parts and read for info. Without CPF I wouldn't have gotten the nosewheel off the ground with modding and learning about lights. I really enjoyed it ~2003 when I joined and it was smaller and friendlier like this forum is now. I long for those days.

You will feel much more welcome here... I sure do.

The word is out and they have all finally been exposed! New discovery of hidden cpf moderator disciplinary training camp! Mistress Julia caught on hidden cam while training a new "cpf mod". The poor guy! BTW, where can I apply for this job? (with a gaurantee that Greta wont be my disciplinary instructor)

Since the CPF outage the other week there have not been a lot of new threads on the led lights forum. Other guys at work commented that they had gone off and found other forums and review sites and were happier with the crowd on the smaller sites.

I remeber a thread on CPF where a guy came on and said I've got $500-600 bonus from work , what should I buy light wise...and people were suggesting various stupid priced lights. I suggested he buy a $100 light and take his wife out for dinner... there were a minimal number of people who agreed the rest were focused on spending the equivalent of a months mortgage payment on a torch.

Anyway theres a lot of europeans on here and we 'get' Sarcasm --- Hey thats a great Surefire you got there how many lumens for $300... thats awsome dude !

Candlepower (abbreviated as cp) is a now-obsolete unit which was used to express levels of light intensity.

Candlepowerforums (abbreviated as cpf) a website, also obsolete.

Hehe, yeah, sorry about that. It's a bit of a bad habit. I often read BLF on the go or while doing something else, because if I don't I always end up with a gazillion unread threads when I do have the time kick back. And that's where the acronyms come in. My bad. I'll try to be less cryptic. Smile

And, for what it's worth, COPPA = Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

A warm welcome motodeficient! I hope you can enjoy your hobby (habit) here with a lot less petty restrictions. As brted mentioned, most of us specialize in and prefer budget priced lights, but of course no legitimate flashlight is banned. And as for posting your personal details... You can post your age, address, credit card number, and social security ID for all I care, just please remember that BLF is utterly, completely, totally, undebatably, indisputably, inexorably and unconditionally free of liability despite any and all dreadful consequences that might ensue. Tongue out

Fortunately we're still small enough for me to be able to do so. And since I'm not such an expert, at least I'm good for something around here. Wink

Welcom Motodeficient - I too got disenchanted with CPF - but did not get banned as I stopped posting much over there when it became too strictly moderated.  It just took the fun out of it.  I think you will like it over here.  I know I do!
