Triple XP-G2 Source

So looking to do a custom mini Mag and am looking for a neutral or warm white 3up with xp-g2’s.
I found cw xp-g2’s but no luck on neutrals. At this point I think I am going to be reflowing my emitters onto a blank triple……
Also anyone have a suggestion for a good driver, I will run the emitters parallel on 2aa likely eneloops. I doubt i will want to run 14500’s but one with a spacer would be an option if there isnt a driver to permit both forms. I just want to drive these to be bright with at least 3 modes so I am thinking some 7135 or the like….EDIT. Nevermind too low voltage…

AFAIK even the best 2AA driver won't produce more than 1A effectively let alone 3-5A that you would probably want for triple XPG2. You might want to consider using 1 or 2x14500 IMR or 2x14500 LiCoO2. Pushing a 14500 LiCoO2 past 1.5-2A is not advised.

Illumination Supply has blank triple pcb's.

Cutter can provide you with Neutral XPG2's (Actually they have two different neutrals in stock), and you can get parallel wired triple MCPCBs from Illumination Supply for 50c each.

I want to do this mod myself - Match has previously done the same but the driver he used is alien to me and I'm also a little lost as to how he implemented the on/off using the stock functionality of the mag tube. Still - early days and I've never really looked into it...yet.

cutter and illumination supply were what I have already found as well. IntOutdoors also has blank triples and with optics dont know quality of optics though and they need trimming. I will likely just solder the blank triples and order some triple carlcos.

A similar host is also an option….
And it seems I will need 123’s or 14500’s so I will probably just use some lions. Dont have any 123’s and wont ever if they need to be series :open_mouth:

The I-O triple is wired in series.

Why don't you just make a P60 triple and use a SF L2P host. The L2P has better build quality than a Mini Mag, is easier to build out, and it gives you better battery options.

I might just save the mini mags for single emitters. I just love mini mags and would like to be able to use primaries or rechargeables…

I want a slimmer host to dissapear in my pocket. An 18650 doesnt really facilitate that effect.

What he did was he used a driver with the negative input on the bottom without anything covering it. Then when you tightened the head on the tube it will make contact. (You have to take a file to the top of it)

Ah...so simple. Just need the heat sink to be machined right, and the driver seated properly.

Thanks scaru :)

I’ve just built up one of these:-

I seriously beg to differ about an 18650 that disappears into a pocket….this is my current edc, infact I’m ceiling bouncing it now to write this, save waking the baby.

Sounds like a nice build gords, what are the details on the guts, and your thoughts bout the build?

Depends on the pants and task. For me, I am always under a dashboard, crouched, or sitting.
I carry my keys on the same side as my pocket and it gets cumbersome, not that a aa is that much slimmer but it makes all the difference.

For reference, I have been carrying a 501B.

I’m a transport fridge engineer. I’m under vans and trucks, under dashes, in unlit bodies. I also do commercial refrigeration - badly lit electrical panels, crouched on the floor rooting in the bases of compressors. I now carry this, a jm05 clone in my electrical tote, a c8 q5 in a head strap in my electrical tote.

I used this driver:-

This emitter bin, but from lck-led:-

And here’s the host:-
Loading....

I’m really chuffed with it to be honest. The constant current driver mean you no longer get a strobe effect when checking engines, the blinkies are hidden and the current is good for this host. It’s smaller than a thrunite t12. The mode memory works, not tried low volt cut off or temp cut off but I believe they will work too.

The light o/p reflector gives a nice smooth beam with a diffused hotspot. It’s just a really nice little light.

Nice! Thanks for the info and heads up on this. I may try an 18650 after all but still want a nice aa/2aa format to play with
