What's best gift you have ever received on Thanksgiving Day?

What’s the best gift you have ever received on Thanksgiving Day?

A flashlight of course.

Actually, Sunday, presents are not really part of most American Thanksgiving celebrations. It is really supposed to be a time of appreciative reflection based in a historical context spent with family and food. In other words, it’s about being grateful and not about gifts.

The day after, on the other hand is all about gifts… buying gifts, that is. Though, personally, going out with the nut jobs is something I don’t personally do.

Note, I meant “nut jobs” in the nicest possible way.

Looks like we will hit 40 for dinner this year up from our normal 30.
Great time, best gift ever no gifts just a fun day for all

I passed a kidney stone on Thanksgiving day once.

I was really thankful when it left, and considered that a great gift.

Perfect example of why the things we are grateful for are true gifts we have received. It’s always been family for me, but for being able to be with them again this year I am extra grateful.

Being an Englishman,it something our freinds in the USA celebrate,so unfortunetly never had a good nosh up or fab prezzie that relate to Thanks Giving.I do feel the good vibe it has though, which is kewl.I have alot of freinds in the states and it makes them Happy,so iam.So i give thanks for that. The idea i beleive was born of an English native Yorkshireman. The celebration Never crossed back over the pond to England that i know of or Europe.

DON…

Been there in the past, traveling for work. Most Thanksgivings we were in some location away from family so we would invite others in the same situation, our extra family.

Trains,Planes,and Automobiles

Thanksgiving!

No gifts or commercialism here! Just good food with family, sometimes 2-3 times over the weekend! We'll be eating lots of turkey... I'll probably be smoking one and deep-frying two or more. I haven't mastered smoking turkey yet; my first try was last Christmas and it came out tasty but dry. I'll be making a few changes this time to see if I can get one to turn out better.

Deep-frying has really changed my view of turkey... Oven-roasted turkey was always flavorless and dry, but a few years ago, I bought the kettle and started frying them and now, that's what everyone wants. It's an expensive investment for the peanut oil, so it's best to have everyone bring a turkey and spend the entire afternoon frying so everyone gets to take home leftovers. Tender, moist, and flavorful (use the injectable marinade...)

  1. Don't overfill the kettle
  2. Make sure your propane tank is full
  3. Avoid the alcoholic beverages!

Some Asians will celebrate Thanksgiving. I’m Asian American, we do the whole 9 yards, turkey, mashed potatoe, gravy, cranberrry sauce, beer etc with family and friends. The leftover turkey is made into Congee Asians will also prepared or just go to Chinatown and purchase a soy sauced chicken for Thanksgiving.

I’d have to say the turkey leg, lol. Do people in other parts of the country give gifts on Thanksgiving? I know in New England it’s generally not customary.

Pepto-Bismol.

The best gift I have received on Thanksgiving Day is...

Tamales! (They rule!) 8)

Those are nice breasts!

might be one of your best pics yet RC!!!

BOOM BOOM!!!

As usual , I will be smoking a 22lb turkey on my electric water smoker . In the water pan will be a bottle of white wine , a large diced onion , a couple of diced Granny Smith apples , and some homegrown crushed thyme . I will use a 50/50 mixture of mesquite and hickory wood . It normally takes 6 to 9 hours to get it just right .

Yum .

Dang that sounds sweet jack! Post some pics (beamshots  )of that beast

Actually , when I smoke a turkey this way , I cook it upright ( beer-can style ) , so the finished result doesn't look very picturesque . When cooked in this way , the skin of the bird becomes inedible , so I pull the whole bird and serve it up already shredded .

I will say that since the bird is getting an herbal infusion of steam the whole time it's being smoked , the meat stays very moist and picks up a great flavor .

+1

I bet Florida weather is great right now. Its kinda cold here in Dallas.
