Mini review of TinyDeal version of "boker" knife

UPDATE: Tinydeal sent me a replacement which is in perfect condition.

Today i recieved my 1st TinyDeal order. I decided to try them out since they introduced themselves on the forum. I wanted a knife at that time so i ordered one for my friend.

Packaging was very easy and since it is a sturdy object i will not complain about. If a flashlight was packaged this way i would be heavily disappointed.

Anyway... To my surprise the knife is alot different from one i bought at DX a while ago. Not much but still. Another sharp user (VectreX i think) already pinted out the slight differences.

Well it is ok as far as aesthetics go. Upon closer inspection the DX one was made waaaaaay better!

This one can't be opened by one hand unless you're Arnold Schwarzenegger. Excessive force is required. Also the opening is not smooth at all but feels like it's being somehow obstructed. When opened, the liner lock does not engage at all, unless you open it with both thands and apply a GENEROUS amount of force and momentum to it. Then you have around 20% chance that it locks. It has a fair amount of sideplay which is very undesirable and shouldn't be even present. It's not over yet... :/ When closing the knife also not smooth at all, at the the blade does scratch to the handle. I't made me think of poor aseembly. So i disassembled it cleaned where required, lubed and reassmbled, just to find out it must be born defective not rushed in assembly line.

As usual i will ask the dealer what can be done to test their defective product policy. We all understand that these are budget knives but even those should be fairly acceptable made. Let see how TinyDeal deals in such cases.

As a comparison the photos of the product in question.

The upper knife is TinyDeal's one, the lower is from DX.

The photos can't provide what i feel handling them but here they are anyway.

In the current state the knife is barely usable. It's irritating to use but is still a knife. Let's see what will happen next.

TinyDeal have sent me a replacement one and now the new one works as intended!

It is comparable to the DX one apart the aesthetics. A good solid knife if you like the looks and size.

Post no.20 has the updated pictures of the replacement.

A good test for Tinydeals, if nothing else. I've got my eye on one of their Sanrenmu 603's, so I'm curious to see how it works out for you.

Thanks for the undeserved credit ;-) Actually, it were phlowcus and jekostas who spotted the differences.

P.S. : Could you adjust your pictures with that "100 %"-trick (point 4 - link updated) ?

A friend has bought it from TD and it is a great very little knife. I am thinking about ordering it myself, but I will wait for my 605 to arrive first. Here in this THREAD is a nice 3 MB comparision pic with the 605 and 603.

Huh. Tough to open, liner doesn't engage AND side-to-side play? That's a really odd set of circumstances. It's generally either the first two or the last one.

The side to side play was diminished after tightening it after disassembly but still present. The liner lock engages every once in a while if i open it very fast and with a generous amount of force. Otherwise not a chance. It was present in the DX knife too but i was able to rectify that easily. To me it looks like it was badly made or assembled with wrong parts. The DX one is very pleasant to operate this one leaves a bitter taste after playing with. Even for that price range it is unacceptable to me. Would not stress it if it was fixable easily but unfortunately aint...

Whoops! It is your fault! You have sooo many posts in the BudgetKnivesForum section of BLF... XD

Doh! after playing with it a bit trying to figure why it does open so hardly i managed to cut my hand pretty badly. Feeling little dizzy atm since i don't like much the view of blood. A nasty palm cut roughly 3cm long and 5mm deep but to the side... almost as i wanted to chop my skin off about a bottle cap size. Does not hurt but it is very annoying. Lesson learned the hard way. Respect the knives and always pay attention what are you doing with one. The cat was made with the pointy tip and just a little blade involved. :/

Well sharp it is, But due to my awesome skills in clumsiness department i would have managed the same with a spoon. :/

Is should have ordered something else. :P

Ouch... get well Budgeteer.

About 10 years ago I managed to cut about 1-1.5mm of the top of my thumb while closing a knife "cowboy way" pressing the release blade and hitting it fast to my leg while removing my thumb out of blade's way very fast. First 1000 times worked great, then, I miscalculated a milisecond...

The funny thing was that, I was at work and was using the knife to open some boxes, so when I cut myself, I wrapped my finger with a towel (which turned red in a few seconds) and on my other hand I holded the knife with a part of my finger on it. And I got to another office where we had the first aid box. There was a colleague and friend of mine, a tough looking guy like a hell's angel, tall, about 150kg, beard and everything who collapsed on the floor when he saw the scene

Because of that combo of 2 post... now I have a guilty conscience.... at least it wasn't a knife that I recommended.... get well soon and treat your knife cut properly .

Budgeteer, sorry to hear of the mishap. I must admit I got a slightly bad feeling when I read your original post about "excessive force" - not something that mixes well with knives!

Vectrex, thanks for the pic link. I guess the 1303 is now the 603. Good to see a real-world specimen to get better idea about the quality of the wood used for the grips. The 605 might be a bit more practical, with durable scales and perhaps better grip, but the 603 looks like a dandy too - a classic pocket knife. I want them all.

I hope it doesn't hurt to much.

I have quite a bit experience with cuts and other injuries, because I'm notorious careless at work. I would adwise you to see a physician if the cut is that big. He might make two stitches (I know you probably dont like that). I use to go to the doc even with smaller cuts, because it cures much faster if it is nicely held in place by some stitches. If the cut is left without treatment it takes at least twice as long to close.

Oh my, thanks for caring but aint really much more than an annoyance really.

Hope you're okay Budgeteer. I do however think that it's some kind of rule that you get cut by just about any knife you own. I've got a lot of knives, and subsequently a lot of old scars on my hands.

That may be, but this cut was really unneeded. Involved a great deal of supidity or carelessness (does such word even exist?) from my part. At least i have a good excuse to not have to carry a big 30Kg+ printer around. ;)

My hand feels a little sad but my back is very thankfull. ;)

@Budgeteer

I'm so sorry to hear that your hand was cut by our knife and you're not satisfied with the new knife. Sincerely apologize.

I've observed both knives carefully, it is obvious that they are different, although they look alike.

Could you please tell me which model (FKT-*****) you bought from us? I will ask someone to check it for you.

By the way, have you seen a switch inside the knife? You should press it when you open or close the knife and stop pressing the switch after the knife was opened.

(PS: can I add attachments here? I can't find the option.)

Dear mrcool, i know fairly well how to operate it, im not really new to knives. The issue is it was poorly machined, assembled or perhaps assembled with wrong parts. It does work but it is annoying to use and is unreliable. Also the blade scratches the liner lock which isn't supposed to. The "switch" works just fine when the blade eventually locks.

The FKT is: http://www.tinydeal.com/8-manual-release-line-locker-folding-knife-cutter-with-stainless-steel-blade-edge-fkt26792-p-22577.html

Thanks for looking into the matter.

Since the DX version is superior... the DX link or SKU would be appropriate and welcomed, if I didn't miss it.

It's just a flesh wound...

Just kidding. Get better Budgeteer, we need your fingers to keep typing.

Hmm..that's very strange, actually our suppliers are the same as DX's...

Did you contact our customer service and report these problems?

Nope. You may have the same supplier but not the same knife. The point is i did not want the exact DX copy that is ok, nver been an issue. The problem is that it's badly made/assembled and should not be. The package was ok, so i doubt transit damaged it. I don't think all come that way just a few now and then i was just being unlucky i guess. Best to check others in stock. You may have got a bad batch... better check rather than get more eventual complaints. This things happen i just have been "lucky". At this price range QC is often overlooked... im afraid.

The Technical description of the torches did not change.Main factor 3V or 5V ))

You're right and you've said what I want to express, no matter what, thanks for your understanding.

So please keep in contact with me through PM and let's solve it together.

Hoping that the problem can be solved in a peaceful way with your satisfaction.
