Review: Olight I3S

Small review of the Olight I3S EOS Cree XP-G2 R5 Keychain AAA Flashlight + Red Gift Box i3.

Purchased in http://hkequipment.net/] http://hkequipment.net on December 20, 2012, received January 4, 2012.
Price $ 23.95 + $ 2 insurance tracking.
Received in padded envelope, and doubly wrapped in bubble wrap. Sufficiently protected.

The box comes with is fine. Better quality than the known Maglite Solitaire. You press the release button and the spring makes lifting the lid.

We see that brings a Duracell alkaline battery with 2019 expiration date. In addition to a keychain (more useful and convenient than other brands such as Bronte, TANK007, …). Finally in addition to reversible clip, two spare o-rings.

Here is the official technical data that come in the instructions. As you can see the runtimes differ from those indicated in Olight page (here indicate 1h/80 Lúm-10h20/Lúm and 120h/0.5Lúm). These instructions seem the most credible, is appreciated. I’ll check the runtime on high tomorrow.

Here consumption values ; Olight I3S front I3. Obtained with inexpensive multimeter. It shows an excellent performance in the new I3S Olight consumption mode only from 0.10 to 0.11 in 20 lumens.

Here curve runtime that is included in the instructions. It seems credible, indicated that was made with a Duracell alkaline battery. It will be something to check.

Tabla date Luxes
Lux at 1 meter
After 10 seconds on, hight mode
With eneloop 2º Gen

Runtime test performed with eneloop (charged 10 days ago), voltage 1.38 V.
We assign runtime of 50 minutes with little loss. From then down fast, at 58 minutes equals Thrunite Ti (3 lumens), at 66 minutes is equivalent to moonlight of Thrunite T10 (0.08 lumens), stop the test here.
I’m really happy, it’s not bad, the instructions are given about 32-34 minutes with alkaline.Voltage 0.88 V eneloop.

Runtime Test Photos;

With the limitations of the camera shots we see here three different powers.
Also a picture of the clip is nice and strong (not like that of the ITP A3 which was nice but very weak). To me it makes good clip of Olight i3 (strong and reliable) and itp a3 (aesthetics and need no key to remove it). It is reversible (a hit), but I have not checked.

Here in front of the old I3 with XP-G R5

Front of the Tank E09 (XP-E R2)

Front of a opponent with the XP-G2 also declares 80 lumens Thrunite Ti2

This family photo of the participants.

Battery:
Indicated by the manufacturer alkaline or NiMh rechargeable. I find no references to Lithium or switching voltage (and I’m not that brave).

How does the changing modes: classic twisty, tighten and loosen head at intervals of less than a second and change modes. We begin in what is called Low mode (20 lumens) always, no memory, then High (80 lumens) and finally Moonlight (0.5 lumens), and what I like is that if we repeat the cycle 2 times L-H-Moon-L-H-Moon-Strobo found a hidden strobe mode (which is as it should be, hidden, but available if needed).

I love:
• The clip is an improvement, Great quality and is reversible
• The new hook keychain, makes it easy to use in candle mode
• The key chain is bringing useful and comfortable
• The box makes it a good choice for gifts
• Led generation XP-G2
• The lowest mode is moonlight (0.5 LUM) that I like when I wake up at night
• hidden strobe mode, I missed it in my small aaa

I do not like:
• Currently nothing

At the moment for me is a 5 star in all respects.

(I apologize for my limited knowledge of English. This is my first review, I hope to improve in the future.)

nice little review. the only AAA lights I have are the Ti’s first editions. how do you like it over the thrunite? They just seem a little pricey for AAA lights.

Ti also are some of my favorite.
Why is it more expensive I3S? I think there is more quality in materials and finishes. It offer more choices in modes, consumption to 20 lumens(110 mA) I think it’s great, and I like a strobe hidden in a aaa. Tailstand easy. The clip is strong, and also reversible, I love it.
Maybe enough price $ 20, but offers much more than the Ti and must be more expensive. Although Ti fulfills its function perfectly edc, there are different levels of perfection and I3S is above the Ti.

Nice review. Thank you for doing this for us.
On edit. Gracias!

Trevi, thanks for the review. I’m a big fan of the Olight I series and it is good to know that this newest incarnation carries on the tradition of quality. The biggest improvement, in my estimation, would have to be the reversible clip.

Your english was plenty good enough , btw.

thanks for the review!

nice box!!

(hehe)

Updated with Runtime Test (with photos), eneloop HR-4UTGA.

thanks for the review, the light is really nice and has been improved.

The english is more than adequate for doing valuable reviews .

In spite of Being a low cost innovation this one works great and has sufficient reliability.

Excellent review, thank you.

Added lux data table of I3S and other flashlights.

Thanks very much! Frontpage’d and Sticky’d.

I ordered one prior to seeing your nice review.
$19.95 shipped from Colorado.

I think the 0.05L moonlight mode will assist military or the pepper alike.

If I need moonlight mode 1st, I’ll press it against my leg and cycle there.

Since getting the i3s, I find my iTp a3 r5’s low to be too bright under, err “circumstances” needing discretion.
Side note, Re: the iTp r5, low is not 1.8l but more like 3+L
somewhere I read that, cannot confirm.

i3s = very nice edc & Survivorlist tool.

Is the i3s really so much brighter than the i3?

Mine doesn’t seem to be any brighter than my i3 eos. I haven’t compared them side by side yet. The thing I like is the really nice moonlight mode and the strobe is hidden from normal operation. Just wish it went moonlight, med and high. I do like the i3s version a lot more over my i3 eos version.

Slightly brighter, but is more efficient (highly efficient medium mode).
The moon mode is a great idea and also hidden strobe.
(But does not look much brighter, only 10 Lumens)

I just measured my olight i3s at 412 lux and my tank e09 at 960 lux- using eneloop aaa. I cant measure lumens but the olight just beats in comparative ceiling bounce, so to the quality. One small problem i have had with the olight- if i leave it on a table [winter here at the moment] it will get stuck on med mode till it warms up[ approx 30 secs]. If kept in my pocket it always cycles correctly. Also med run time and tint are outstanding .9 out of 10.

(Orange looks gold to me)

Edit; removed old Ebay link

Fantastic price for the I3S. Perfect with NiMH (awesome with Efest IMR 10440!!).
No doubt, orange is gold.
