Brass Fitting Flashlight

Here is just a quick little light made from brass fittings, 2 16340’s and parts taken from a 501b. Neat little light and very heavy.

Nice looking light you made yourself!

I dont have any of that creativity stuff!!!

Great job! I've been wanting to do something similar with a blend of copper and brass plumbing pieces. Is that a complete p60 reflector in that as well as the p60 pill? How do you switch it on/off? Looks like you have to put in the cells if you want light and remove them when you don't. A little tutorial or at least some breakdown pics would be nice to share with us all. ;)

yes complete reflector less the larger negative spring. this spring was used under the tail cap. this spring will hold the negative end of the battery off of the tail cap until tightened down. i put a small magnet on the negative end so it will touch the tail cap when tightened. the only mod really done was the lens had to be ground down just a bit to fit in. i even used the original o ring on the lens. the led was just one of the cheap xm-l t6. with a little grinding an 18650 would also fit. i am not even sure of what size and what fitting i used. i just fumbled around in the fittings until i found something that would fit the reflector and batteries.

Very nice! Perhaps a teardown pic with all the components shown separated from one another. Should be easy to figure out what all was used in the making then. That is, if it’s not too much trouble.

impressive! real original, must be heavy

How good is that flashlight. Simply amazing. You must have a great collection off fittings around you. Well done.

Maybe you could get an order to custom manufacture a “theme” light for Roto-rooter ala the “American Chopper” TV show. You could even have your son help you and have family feuds etc. and have your own TV show. (There’s more money in entertainment than flashlights)

Seriously, that is really cool!

Fair play, that’s about the most awesome retro diy light I think I’ve seen.

I absolutely love it ! and I WANT ONE !!!

Did you use any pipe dope or teflon tape? Can’t have that puppy springing a leak.

did not use any tape or dope just wrenched it down tight. i will post a pic tomorrow of everything but it is super simple. only other thing i would do is get a really good drop in. the one i used is the cheapo out of the light from dx.

not sure what the weight is but you could use it as a weapon if needed. heat sink should not be a problem.

That is very unique and different. Really catches the eye. A very interesting approach!

great light, I guess it will last forever!

Great looking creation. Always loved the look of brass flashlights.

Nicely done.

Excellent build! Every time I go to HD lately, I always stop in the plumbing aisles just to scout out the best parts that would make a good host. Someday…
