LED 3-Watt CREE 120 Lumen Flashlight (2-D cells) on Buy.com

Sorry if this is a re-post, looks interesting at $10. Probably direct-drive. Any experiences with these?

It's kinda large and heavy for a 120 lumen light. Speaking personally, I'd go for an AA-S1 for the same money but it most certainly won't have the runtime this thing ought to have. Assuming roughly an amp out of the cells, a pair of decent alkalines ought to give 10Ah so ten hours runtime. In the usage that that sort of light gets, that should take months if not years. 8Ah LSD NiMHs will give 8 hours and can be recharged.

For the same weight i could carry the AA-S1 and enough cells to keep it running for days at a time.

I dont know , for Joe six pack , might be just fine , + might make a OK mod host ? [ depending on internals ]

Agreed, not very sophisticated or size-efficient; it would be a run-time king. Oh well, too many irons in the fire right now, anyway. Deals on this particular flashlight do pop up from time to time.

clearly blows the AA-S1 away

I don't reccommend lights very often..... at under 7$ it's a steal .. @ $10 buy it .. it's a cheap thrower .

deep reflector A pretty serious peice of aluminum as a heat sink .. I blows the hell out of all the stupid plastic garbage people buy for twice the money at target walmart etc . I like it for a dime ...

cons : ringy . D batteries ,plastic lens , plastic reflector , switch ?

Pros : price , D batteries ,pretty fit n finish , heft , throws like a mother .

Looks decent but plastic reflector and lens... :/ Modding it with a 17mm driver might prove difficult.

Can someone post pictures for internals? The light looks interesting to me. A r2 driven at 1A from 2 D cells is quite amusing.

If these are the same ones that were offered by Woot the other day, pics of the internals will be forthcoming. I ordered 3 :)

Figured it may make a good host for a mod or two.

For the price I like it .

yeah match it's the same light .. curious what your overall opinion is...obviously there is nothing else out there for 6.67 cents that touches it ..an ebay c78 q3 flood to throw ?

I find it funny that under orders there is a limit:

Limit (10) per customer.

Weirdos...

Do you think the light will work with the maglite ASXX376 accesory pack?

Short answer, no. Head is different diameter, and the body is slightly slimmer. Just received my 3 lights today. Like Boaz said...they are a fantastic deal. Full review and pics are forthcoming.

(teaser: the heatsink is huge...but they ruined it by milling all the way through, so the 20mm star only makes contact on the edges. Can this shortfall be overcome to make a super xm-l thrower? Tune in next time on Match's Mods )

:)

I believe you could easily thermal glue a copper or aluminum disk on top of the the existing heatsink (with the big hole in the center). You should then be able to screw the heatsink up to the reflector, and trim down the plastic tube that the center spring goes in. I have glued the existing stars on mine around the edges and suspect that this should be sufficient for the heat from the stock CREE emmiters.

Looks very cheap
