Need help picking a cheap AAA light for edc

Hey guys I'm trying to pick a cheap little AAA light for edc purposes. I tried to narrow things down as best as I could. I will mainly be using this indoors to work on projects up close so flood is more important than throw. Other then that battery life is always important, I'm trying to stay <$15usd atm, we'll see if that comes back to bite me but for what I'm going to be using this for I can't justify spending too much.

Small 1*AAA

ThruNite Ti

Ultrafire A3

Tank007 TK-703

Tank007 E09 - DinoDirect , Tank007 E09 - FastTech - Heard good things in general, not a big fan of twisty but I will still consider it.

Ti - nice 2 mode twisty

richauong 7001 sucks ...absolute dud

black cats sorta old and a bit cheap ...osram emitter

mxdl is a ebay 2.50cent light ,, tints suck and like the richaung it;s a Chinese emitter ??

tank 703 is a light that impressed Match when he got one last year . It's a nice little light

tank e09 I don't have but I'm sure its nice ..but tanks with modes always have low pwm

llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

2AA

h ugsby is gonna be your best bet ..a very nice well built pretty beam great clip

mxdl is just too cheap some are horrid purple tint others dim dark ..huge tint lottery

lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Ultrafira c3's are just wicked bad trouble lights ...i have no idea why but they all had problems

AA / 2AA light is hard . tank 566 or tank 568 and there is a $2 extension tube pretty easily found on the internet .. dino ? manafont ..

downside is tanks have pwm that may bug you .. it bothers me but i like the light enough to deal with it ... modes are very well spaced ..Beam is ringy because it uses a smooth reflector .. but It has throw :)

sk 68 with an extension tube /xeno e15< $$$

Thanks for the feedback Boaz, I'm trying remove things as I rule them out so the list has shrunk considerably already.

I picked up this guy because at $3.66 shipped I feel like even if its complete crap I'll just give it away.

Still haven't decided on the edc though.

I think that's the light people use to steal the extension tube off and use on the sipik sk68 to make it a 2 AA. so save it

it will be a bad chinese emitter

Oh cool I was planning on getting a sk68 eventually, thanks.

no like the Fenix E01?

If your into modding you could try one off these.

I don't dislike the E01, I'm just not sure it will provide enough light at only ~10 lumens but it is a nice light so I won't rule it out completely. Love the battery life on it.

Thanks for the link but that is a bit too big I'm trying to find something that is only a little bigger than a AAA

I really like the Ti, great little light!
Paid $9/piece at a 5pcs bundle deal, now everyone in the family have one!

Do you have preference between the Ti and Ti2, I am definitely giving them heavy consideration because they fit the bill for me in pretty much every way.

Balder TD-0 - It’s the mother of all AAA lights.

I agree with Boaz.

Can’t go wrong with a Thrunlite Ti. I don’t care for twisty lights either but they got this one just right. It has nice aggressive checkering so your fingers don’t slip on the head and there is only one direction to twist to get into both modes. It will also take a 10440 and produce about 200 lumins on high!

Only major cons to the Ti is the head may fall off if it gets too loose. Never happened to me but have heard stories. Same is true for all twistys with loose head off. Also, it does not come with a pocket clip. Real shame as a light like this would be easy to carry in pants or shirt pocket with a clip.

I just got my Hugsby XP-2 from Wallbuys. It was like $7.50 on sale I think. Really nice tint and nice floody beam with smooth even beam. Strong deep pocket clip should the light secure and not separate. It’s a single mode reverse clicky which takes 2 AAAs for extra runtime. The anodizing and fitnand finish are actually quite nice.

If I paid $20 for it, I wouldn’t feel bad at all. At $7-10 it’s a no brainer. Pick up one or two since they are so handy. A 2 AAA with a pocket clip is easier to carry than a 1 AAA without. My guess is it has about 50 lumens. Plenty bright for any task within 10 feet.

Just went thru the same process on this thread…might have something of use for you there:

Let us know what you buy!

Have the thrunite ti on key chain and carry olight i3 in pocket. Both good little lights.

Well I decided to try and get a Thrunite ti2, we'll see how that goes. If I can't I will probably get a ti. Or I'll talk myself into a fenix ld01 :P

Fenix E05

we dont know how well the ti2 is regulated or stabilized. the ti is *not* stabilized, one can see the dimming after 5mins already. and if you start off with a half depleted cell, say 1.28V, then the light *is* plain dim. hopefully your ti2 is stabilized ;)

stuff such as E09 and LD01 are *always* bright, also with depleted Eneloop. constant brightness lights!

I believe that the Tank007 E09 is the best value for money among most, if not all, 1xAAA lights around.

I recently picked up a couple of Ti2’s. Overall, I am very happy with them. The firefly mode is really nice. A clip for the LD01 fits these perfectly, btw. Currently $3 at fenixgear.com. I ordered 5 clips for various lights and shipping was only $1.

Unfortunately, on one of them, the firefly mode stopped working after the first few times it was used. I read around the forums and found that this was an issue with some of the Ti’s as well. Lifting the contact did not correct the issue.

I ordered through the Thrunite Shop on Ebay. Communication on the issue was very good. They did ask me to send the defective light back to their warehouse in CA before they sent a replacement. It added about $2 to my total cost, but I wasn’t going to sweat it. I would purchase again from Thrunite.

Yeah I've heard about that problem valuseeker, I hope your new one works out better.

Just out of curiosity were you able to get any of your ti2 in black? I see a few for sale on ebay but they are priced ridiculously high, I am currently making an offer on one so I'll see how it goes. I'm jus wondering if this is the result of a lack of inventory or if they have been discontinued or what. Really only want a black one I don't care for the colors, so if I can't get it in black I'll have to get something else.
