TK41, Next high end wish list torch

Before ever investing in the lithium world, the TK40 has always appealed to me for output, throw, and importantly an AA power source.

However the head tapering to a diameter narrower than the body has Really turned me off the torch! its just ugly, lacks flow in the design.

There is now word that their revisited model, the TK41 will be hitting shelves some time in the near future, and it doesnt dissapoint on paper.

For starters, its still a very throwy AA powered torch. Infact, Its got a very impresive throw, with an ANSI figure of 472m!, to put that into perspective, the Catapult XM-L throws 445m, the fenix TK35 333m.

Secondly, It doesnt look that bad anymore, the head still looks a little funky, but the fins prevents the narrowing from distracting from the appearance, and they actualy look functional for once!

UI seems to be similar to the TK35, with the 2 sets, normal modes and the strobe modes, and this seems to be a nice simple way of handling the modes. What I really love is the low of 10 lumens for 10 days. A great level for low IMO for such a light. (im a fan of lower lows for big torches, becasue I like to be able to tail stand it and leave it in the room for low level lighting, its how I like to use them, i know some disagree, speaking of which, ive left my legion on in my bedroom on low, but thats a 120 lumen low :()

The buttons on the neck also provide for a Great Physical UI, none of these difficult to handle tail switches on big torches. Good solid easy single handed operation.

Price is meant to be at the $129 mark RRP, but we will see what HK can offer us.

I think I'm adding this to the wishlist. I still wish the TK35 had more throw...

Is one place which has info

looks good but to expencive for me

Great find. I used to think of lithium lights only but after seeing that many things to think about with LiIon batteries I guess AA lights will always keep their value. And with 8 AA batteries this light seems to have more battery power than a 2x18650 one.
I guess hkequipment may have a better price than this. I might get one from them.

Wonder how much bigger this torch is compared to a side by side 2 (or 3x) 18650. THe battery bay of the TK41 is pretty much a 2D cell size.

They are a handful, that's for sure. I have a TK45, which has the same tube as the TK40 and presumably the TK41. I seldom use my TK45 simply because it is relatively large and I can't be bothered to carry it around.

I'm curious to see what, if any, improvements the TK41 has over the TK40. It was the TK40 that prompted my interest in lights, especially since I already had lots of AA for my camera flashguns. Funnily enough, I never did get a TK40 because by the time I had decided to get some lights the TK45 had arrived. Maybe now I will finally get a TK40ish light.

Fonarik.com has the beamshots of this light, TK 41 and many other Fenix lights. And as far as I could compare it is even a better thrower than TK35, way throwier than TK45. It may really be useful outdoors if the weight and the size won't matter that much. Maybe cannot compete in ergonomics of a TK35 with a parallel placed batteries but I don't think it will be much worse than a 2-3 x 18650 TR1200 body.

Only thing makes me think is that big battery pack to fill everytime the light goes dimm. There could be some empty holders sold to allow faster change in the field. I can't imagine that I could find the true way to insert all those 8 AA batteries in the darkness of the night.

That TK41 is an awesome looking light and I think multiple AA torches are great. I used a Led Lenser P14 (4 AA in a holder) at work for a while and it seemed like forever between recharges. Unfortunately, I never grew fond of the LL. It sits with my unloved P17 among the ocean of Mags I have that never get used.

the beamshots on Fonarik look pretty awesome for the TK41, even compared to the TK35 which I have been tempted to buy.

Are Fenix products price-controlled, or is there a website that you can get discounts on them?

I've been thinking hard about a TK35 for the last couple of weeks...

I know that lightjunction offers a 12% discount for CPF members. 4Sevens.com, Fenix's (really) website, offers 8% discounts with CPF username, and free world shipping.

I wish some retailers would offer the same discount for BLF.

I could get a TK35 for $100 from EBAY. I made an offer and they accepted. I don’t know if they accept every offer over a hundred dollars now. it was a legitimate seller (hkequipment) and they sell it higher on their own site.

Yeah, lightjunction, they sell em for $109.95, and 12% off that is 96.8, plus 99 cent shipping.... which is pretty nice if you're in the US. If someone wants the coupon code, PM me.

Anyone know how the cells are setup in that light? 4S2P would seem to make the most sense.

I think 8S, like the TK45, seeing as they haven't mentioned anything about being able to run 4 cells. I was talking about how one might be able to use the TK40 carrier in the TK41 with 4 IMR 14500.

HKEquipment started selling TK41 by this week. Made an offer on EBay, let's see if I can get a better price.

There is a seller on ebay who had the TK35 for $95 including tax and shipping, but that seller does not think he will get TK41 for a few more weeks at least.

I like the size of it, it looks to be the same size as an "old fasihioned" flashlight.

I remember the battery being 4S2P ? I hope to be able to have a play with one within the next week or so, or at least within 3 weeks anyway. (not mine though..) I already have 2 sst-50 torches and cant 'justify' getting another similar classed torch. I do desire more throw than the SST-50 can offer though. I am waiting for the day Cree has a 5A + rated emitter in neutral, then that will replace the emitter in my current torch!

I know there is a $130 thrower in my future, just can't decide if I should go TK41 or budget HID like the Palight.

I'm all for spending more to get more ..but fenix is always way too much money ..I'm so not interested it smacks of a cpf fanclub cuz it takes that kind of insanity to throw down for a fenix .I mean god bless them for having the guts to ask good money for a light and not caving in on their own brand name .When they were offering free tk45 lights I had my hand out to test one even though i think they were and ..are fuggly .I am the biggest maniac in the world but I will not throw down a 100 bucks for a light .I 've drawn a line in the sand at 50$..if someone wants more money than that they are gonna have to sell me ..I'm not gonna press my own nose against their glass .they can come to me . I won't sell myself .
