That and a Quantel Paintbox for video, of if labour is cheap a warehouse full of Photoshop operators working frame-by-frame. It is that good! Forest Gump (the movie) was Photoshopped frame-by-frame to edit out his legs.

I can't do it, but I know people who can do that stuff. I support some people who do that sort of thing for a living - while I can drive Photoshop if I have to, I can't do what these guys and gals do.

But long before Photoshop people were "retouching" history. There were a lot of documentaries about a Chinese woman who had fled to Hong Kong in the 80's whose job had ben retouching Chinese history as various groups fell in and out of power. They retouched the negatives using paintbrushes with one hair and scalpels. Stalin's Russia employed thousands of such people too - it is much harder retouching a negative than Photoshopping it.

30 years ago you could earn 8-30x as much as a labourer if you were good at retouching photographs. When a labourer got around £1/hour a skilled retoucher could get more work than they could handle at £20/hr.

There are postcards for sale in out townhalls gift shop. They all show all blue skies, I've lived in Bolton for about 15years now...I don't remember there having ever been a clear blue sky Silly

It is a very impressive building though (image from Wiki) which imcludes a rather more realistic sky Smile
