Nite Ize ClipLit/ZipLit?

Has anyone here used these before or know of anything similar?

They use a CR927 3V lithium cell.

There was last week an entry in the what have you got today thread.
And here

Seems to be quite nice.

I have purchased several different Nite-Ize products and and happy with all of them . I get mine from here .

Looks like what I have on my dogs collar on night walks.

I know these ones are slightly bulkier and not so cool, but i’ve been using them for some months in my backpacks (mountain, heat, snow, rain….) and work perfectly. Actually the bigger size helps me finding them/pulling specially with gloves on. I even used one as the main light inside the tent during a month cycling/wild camping last year in iceland:

They take water, 30 meters drops… and no problem so far. And, about the cool factor, in fasttech (i got mine first from dx) they carry coloured ones now:

EDITED to add: i didn’t notice Rojos post…. oops :zipper_mouth_face:

I’ve got a white and a red cliplit… not very bright, but likeable enough. Bulkier and much brighter (plus blink mode) is the SpotLit.

What I hate about these small lights is that the battery drains quickly and then it is to dim.
A cr927 has about 30mAh

The 2016 batteries have about 3 times the capacity and even these drain too quick, one unwanted switch on in pocket and its worthless.

And then to buy batteries costs more than new lights…so you waste them…not good.

I am happy with my mini 01 and rechargeable 16340

Thanks, everyone! The reviews on Heinnie weren’t so favourable so I wasn’t sure. I already have some 20000mcd fauxtons from DX so I might give these a miss.

Thanks for the info! I was concerned about the battery.

I purchased something pretty much the same. It was a Niteize clip on for your dogs collar. It was green and had a paw print in the front. I mailed it to a friend, and she and her friends all loved it. There’s not much that can co wrong.

I have received them previous week, and I must say they are not very bright.
The ZipLit one is too dim to be usefull. Cliplit one is brighter but not bright as that cheap fauxtons.
I am agree that battery is also a problem. It is very small.
For the quality of the product, it is very good.
Last word, I do not recommend them.

If you want very small, powerfull and durable light, This thread I have writen before has a sample.

Those keychains from FastTech are sometimes given as gifts by companies with stuff printed on them, or similarly shaped CRxxxx battery with white led.
They don’t last that long.

I have 2 of them now in my hands, check check, main light off, they are almost dead.

What works years of wonder for me are old 3V CR123A from an old camera that did not want to run on them anymore. So I take a box of matches, microswitch make a hole for LED and install it inside, fits almost perfect! It’s best to tape the paper match box with a clear tape or something, you know, that office thing. It lasts me forever. Still have the first one, changed the battery twice in it for another old one that was not used but dead from camera for the same time. It may be 14 years now.

CR123A and a single LED lasts long especially if you get a new battery.
Sure it is bulkier.

Just thought I would share. That’s my first DIY light. Still works, made a second one with 3x LED not so long ago so I deplete and get rid of the few old CR123A batteries

fauxton lights are use and throw when failed, you can purchase in tens.

I have also done a mod on a quality osram keychain light on this thread.
This modified one has very good light, led is about 30 lumens in specs. Size and shape is similar to fauxtons.

Thanks, fyesilova! I was wondering how they would compare, and also which model was brighter.

I like your Osram keyring mod. I have a similar Ring keyring light and replaced the LED. I do not know if the LED is Nichia. Anyway, I will post a picture tomorrow if I have time. I like it because it is waterproof and has a click switch instead of having to hold the button like on the fauxtons.

Bad runtime with dx/fasttech fauxtons? really? well, i don’t know what is a good runtime for this tiny things for most people, but when i tested a couple when i first got them, it was more than 2 days, more like close to 3 days, if i’m not wrong. 72 hours (of course dimming light) with a 200 mah battery is awesome at least for me. Take into account that if they’re on for a normal 3/4 hours hike, it means they’ll last for many days.

Mountain equipment coop carries these, last fall I was suffering from withdrawals as no lights had arrived in over two week. I bought two (a red and a white) found them goalie at first but there suprizingly well built and great for the backpack zippers. I may try em on my winter coat as I haven’t thought of that.

All in all, great for camping, great for coats and backpacks, a little too round for keys (unless your an outside the pocket caribeeners type like me)

I have been using small lights like the dx/fasttech fauxtons for years. It is true if you leave them on for very long they will fade. However, I don’t use them as walking lights, and they do great.
Jerry

I only use the fauxton keyring for those times when I need to look in my handbag for something, or say in a theatre and checking the floor etc. I don’t think I’ve had to change the batteries once and it’s been on my keys for years.

I don’t know if these Nite Ize or even fauxtons are appropriate for what I hoped could be a cheap hands-free low lumen alternative to a Zebralight H51 worn around the neck.

I have one, one on order and two lost: one loose clip that I didn’t tighten and one lost by children. They are probably my most useful lights, as I always carry one. I like the red for night vision and cause it is different. Also kids like it and it can be used as a substitute for an emergency road flair. I got a red one before the white ones came out and that is the one I still have. I got it after I fell in my mother’s back yard because I forgot she had potted plants there. They are around as bright as an old incandescent 2D light, good for walking around in the dark when you didn’t plan on it to bring a larger light. They have high low and strobe modes. I think the driver is built into the led unit, so one can’t upgrade the led without losing the modes. They withstand babies saliva and hand sanitizing liquid, even though there are no O-rings.
