Scaru's Extremely Detailed Guide on Adding Pictures

It seems that some people are still having trouble adding pictures so here my guide is, with a picture for every mouse click. Smile

First, go to Tinypic.com

Click on "Choose File".

Click on the picture you want to upload.

Click on Open.

Then click upload now.

Follow the directions and then click Upload Now

Then select the text under "Direct Link" and press control C (command C if on a Mac).

Go onto BLF where ever you want to place the picture. Then click the picture of a tree.

Click in the text box next to "Image URL" and press control V (command V on macs).

Click on the appearance tab.

Delete the text in the Dimensions area.

Type 100% in the first box and leave the second box blank.

Click Insert.

Click Ok.

Then you are done, you have inserted a picture.

Congratulations for getting to the end of my very detailed guide!

Picasa and Imgur both have drag and drop. Some might find that easier.

I don’t get it…
Why would anyone glue his flashlight to the ceiling? Wink

Lights out! That's when things get interesting...

(can’t found two years old Don’s (if I’m not wrong) thread though Flat Stare )

what happened to these tutorials, scaru? Flat Stare

Maybe it’s just me, but I hate when someone use that “Dimension” field. Hate when 500 pix image is resized into blurry s%&t on my 1680×1050 monitor, and it’s not even FullHD. I would love to see function that resize images when they don’t fit the screen (i.e. mobile devices), and not fit to screen (HD size) a small 500 pix image Sick I was thinking many times to create a “What resolution do you use?” poll because of those badly formated images.

EDIT: please, don’t follow this tutorial, don’t use 100%. Make a small 640×480 previews and link them to full images if you want (unless it’s one or two images). This is how the best presentation IMHO: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/7630 (just an example)
If you do it that way, your reviews will have only 2 or 3 Megs of images, much faster loading. Wanna full res image? Click on it, et voila!

I just made this one so it was "all in one" so to speak, it covered everything including the hosting. Mostly because in the past two days I have been asked about how to post a picture/where to host it 3 times. Wink

I agree though, it would be better if it only decreased the picture size and didn't stretch it to fit on larger monitors than it was meant for. But, IMO it is worth it for when you are browsing from say an iphone; it makes everything so much easier.

I have EDITed my last post.

As for creating new post… 1) why just you don’t add your “new” way to one of those I mentioned? The OP could just edit his first post and add your new info
2) I don’t use Ubuntu, how do I upload pics? My menu is not like that. (I would skip this whole step)
3) I personally would recommend to open a new account on Photobucket or Imageshack (or even on tinypic), so you can always copy your links and not search whole forum for them.

Just my .02.

PS: it will make it easier for you, not for all. That’s why we need to create that poll and know the %% of mobile phone users.

Ok, good point. I will remove that part of it. I was mainly thinking of people on mobiles but I'll change it.

1. Because I felt like doing a new thread, I mean what's wrong with that?

2. You do the exact same thing it says, I have done this on: Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Chrome OS, and a Mac (forget which version).

3. Yes, if you are going to use the same images in multiple places over a longer period of time that might be a good idea; if you would like I could create a guide on how to create an account on photobucket. Silly

As for mobile phone users, I know Gords is always on a phone and Nightcrawl always asks that people resize to 100% so I'm guessing he is too, I am a decent amount of the time (reading mostly since I hate typing on my iphone), and I'm sure there are many others.

1) unnecessary job having two well explained tuts already, scaru. You could add only that tinypic related stuff to one of them.
2) I meant these two images
http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/hh535/scaru2/Screenshotfrom2013-02-1...
http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/hh535/scaru2/f625b722-4d75-486b-aa43...

they are only Ubuntu related. I would skip this before someone will ask you why his are not like yours

3) very easy stuff, for sure, but agreed, very useful and free Big Smile Don’t know if someone will have probs creating a new account though, but yeah, of course you can do it. I think if we just mention that (and put it in bold) will be more than enough.

Well, I’ve created new poll in a blink of an eye. Wondering how many users are using phones or other mobile gadgets Big Smile So we can adapt most of the images to that res, don’t you think? Wink

First of all, yes that specifically is; but almost all computers are the same. If you don't believe me I will take screenshots of that stage from a couple different operating systems.

And yes, I also created a poll. And since it seems 75% of BLF uses a mobile phone to browse BLF at lease some of the time, I think it is only considerate to set it to 100%.

Nope, I’d only considerate small, pre-resized images. Mobile phones are slower than PCs and smaller images will suck less 3G bandwidth (i.e. like turboBB reviews). From now on, I will not post any images bigger than 640×480, will be much easier and faster for you (other mobile users). Don’t tell me that res is too big

But, hey Scaru how is the uploading of a sig done for this forum? Tried the “direct link” and “forum” codes, as well as the “Insert Image” code Without any luck. Thx

In the advanced tab check the box that says "Alternative Image" and then paste the two different URLs into the appropriate spots.

I browse on a mobile quite a bit and I have no problem with using 50% for pictures. I always try to include the image link so it can be clicked for the full image.
Using 100% all the time does make some images look nasty on a PC screen. Something from 50% to 100% is good, but avoid absolute or blank size, as it can overflow on smaller screens making it harder to peruse.
I wonder if the forum could be changed to allow the user override the size attribute to the value you select. Every image would be the exact size you want it to be. This sounds like too much work though… just thinking out loud I guess.

Welcome the night.
