What do you think about rating threads ? rate my thread

I was wondering if it would help people to be able to sort thru the threads they were very interested in and avoid the ones they really had no interest in at all .If the member could access his favorite threads at any time it might help to keep some more interesting ones alive and stop you from opening up the ones you thought were dumb the first time .

It might also give credit to really valuable threads that had a tendancy to get lost and buried even in a search .Threads that you would think should become a sticky or wish to share with others .

It also is a way to rate a thread or an idea without having to post and then try to nicely explain all the reasons you think the member is out of their minds .. It would give more power to the long time  lurkers who read but don't nessesarily want to post a replybecause of time restraints or language barriers etc ..

A much milder version of the ignore / shill / spam  button .

The topic has come up before and I'm not sure why people don't like the idea .Maybe they feel like someones feelings will be hurt if their thread is rated poorly or others might lobby to get theirs rated higher . I don't see why either would matter .

Please feel free to rate this idea ..... Silly

on a 1 to 10 scale What do you think.Good idea ?? Bad idea ..??

I think we should have a list of essential BLF threads, everything from Match’s lumen tests, a link to HKJs battery tests, and links to Scaru’s signature threads, and anything else thats vitally important all in one easy to find place

Why not let the entirty of blf make those decisions instead of asking mr.Admin or just one person ?

How about access to your own ratings as well   so you can sort threads by your own interest level .. as is it's only a black or white ..yes or no choice  ..you can mark threads as read but can't delete them or ignore them ..and whne they pop up again you have to make a decision ..Did I already read it ..?? Did I like it ?? Do I want to be engaged in that discussion??  or avoid it ??   I know I've repeatedly opened up the same thread that somehow grabs my interest only to find it's one I don't want to be involved in at all ..I'd like a way to be able to flag them ..like a "post it note".. that says .. "you didn't like it ..don't go back there "

On one hand it would be  a helpful way to remind you of threads you really enjoy and don't want to forget .. on the other..like a variable ignore button measuring your overall interest .

Mighty complex algorithm, why not just a personalized search engine for each member?

I remember a time, when I searched for lights to fit my needs. Now I search for needs to fit my lights.

Seems that most of it could be accomplished by just allowing one to ignore entire threads. A button like subscribe, but with the oppossite effect. It removes it from all views of the forum (except maybe searches — certainly unavoidable with the custom google search). Then a simple icon next to each thread to indicate whether you’re subscribed or not (and if included in searches, whether you’ve ignored it). A + for subscribed, nothing for no action taken, and a – if you ignored it (and it shows up via search or whatever).

I think it should be a simple enough implementaion. It would work very much like the “new” and “updated” tags we already see.

Home-brew is mastic.

I give this thread a solid 8. It has an agreeable beat and I can dance to it.

I like the idea..

It could be interesting to have your own “favorite list” , maybe even with ratings.

Some interesting threads are hard to find.
I sometimes added them to my Favorites (bookmarks), but it would be nice to have them in a side window for example.

Hi everybody,

For the most part, it sounds like the My Subscriptions page would allow everybody to keep track of their own sphere of interest, without introducing a Slashdot-style up/down rating system.
