Dead Convoy S3

My Convoy S3 2.8 gave up the ghost after about a month. Anyone else have probs with the S3 or S2 or other lights with the 3/5 mode Fasttech drivers?

One second it was working and the next it was not. Wouldn’t come on at all for 15 minutes or so, then I would only get a slight very-low-power emitter glow. Then it wouldn’t work at all. Then sometimes it would come on. Then nothing.

NO flickering, which would be indicative of a bad battery connection. I, of course, went through ALL the usual diagnostics and could find nothing overtly wrong. I did not want to pull the emitter to test it separately as that might have voided fasttech’s generous warranty.

I do NOT+ blame fasttech for this in any form or way. Defective products pop up in any company. In fact, Fasttech had an RMA to me within 12 hours, and the light is now wending its way to Cloud Commerce in Florida, hopefully for a replacement, as the S3 has become my EDC and I miss it already. :–0

Fasttech even offered to pay for the return shipping, which (to me) is above the call of duty. I don’t think I have ever had a company pay for return postage on a defective product. I consider paying return postage as the risk you take when buying stuff online. Well, not return postage to China, of course, but for domestic products.

I have a Convoy S2 and a M2, both of those have been fine so far. Not a glitch. As my EDC, the S3 actually got a lot less use than my other lights. When I go for a walk at night, I’ll take a bigger light like an A0 clone or the BLF A8 or a Ke-5. I’ll have the s3 in my pocket as a backup, but it probably only gets maybe 20 minutes of use a day.

So anyone else have problems with the 3/5 mode drivers or S3 or S2

Not yet, I have a few in use so time will tell… my xihouzi? Has been and is still going strong including heavy work use (cell recharge every couple of days). Could be, as you say, just bum luck.

I have a 3/5 U2 S3, but I don’t use it often. I have an XP-G2 R5 S3 that I use almost every day. I’m assuming (also hoping) it was just a fluke.
Sorry to hear about it, glad FT was eager to take care of it.

That’s what I’m hoping also. I’d like to have no disco modes at all, but that 3/5 driver is the next best thing. Could also have been the emitter. Hoping fasttech will tell me, but I doubt they will.

Been using the S2 since Feb 4th. So far so good
