The worlds best battery! Hmm I thought. However something dawned on me, you cannot make these kind of claims unless they are in fact the ‘worlds best battery’ under the wrapper. That would probably be Sanyo. So 3 months ago I ordered some and sure enough they are 2nd generation eneloops.
How do I come to this conclusion? Well the exterior construction is identical, top of the cell, bottom of the cell and also the voltage off the charger is identical and of course they are made in Japan. They are not Panasonic Evolta’s as they have different tops and bottoms. Pansonics also don’t hold quiet as higher voltage after a few weeks or so. After 4 weeks the voltage of the Eneloops and contours are indentical.
Now I paid £4.99 a pack but now they are only £3.99! Needless to say I have ordered another 3 packs.
hmm tempted as is a lot cheaper than anyone else selling them and the 7dayshop ones I went for last time but cannot see any capacity info anywhere apart from ebuyer who mention 2100mah which I don’t think is the same as eneloops? and only they mention that, tried a dozen other shops and nobody else does for some stupid reason, not like it’s useful info that a customer might want to know now is it |(
don’t suppose you have tested the capacity of the ones you have marcl?
I don’t have any discharge facility on my charger. But they say 2100mah on the cell. eneloops are around the same when tested. I have had them for a good few months and they are identical in every way to eneloops, same run times in my Klarus as well.
Chloe,
Nothing states China on the package or cells. It just says ‘made in Japan’.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind they are eneloops, 100%. The deciding factor for me was the button tops. If any of you have 2nd gen eneloops go and take a look at the button. Instead of the vents that the 1st gen has, it has 4 machining marks, very slight you may need a magnifying glass, but I can see them. I have maybe 10 different brands of AA and none have these marks, apart from 2nd gen eneloops and Contour.
Jut bought 16 of them. I have 56 real Eneloops to compare them to.
NiMH testing over long timescales is one of the things I do.
High current stuff I don’t have the equipment to do.
HKJ - want 4 of them to play with?
I’d be interested to see how they do when tortured. I can feed them to an 8 amp 15 minute charger which is cruel - but don’t have the kit to torture them properly.
Torture is not something I normally do to non-BTY cells where normal usage counts as torture.
What proper torture does is things like dead shorting them to see what current they’ll provide down to 0V then charging them at 10 amps to see how long they’ll hold that charge then discharging them at >10A to see how the voltage drops.
Before you hit them with hammers. Or axes.
Then try to charge them with a welding set - at about 400A
Behind a blast shield!
I don’t have the (extremely expensive) kit to do that stuff. It’s easy to kill cells by charging them for a month or two - not so easy by using them like the makers intended. Unless they are crap cells.
