Need a Compact RCR123 Light

I have these RCR123s and they’ve been doing nothing but sitting the box. I’m wanting a light that can in some way utilize this format. Any pocketable arrangement, that is.

Thanks. Very nice, but what am I going to do with the other battery? And can these handle Rcr123s? They max at 4.2 volts.

if you want one of those try to contact wwefans to see if any BLF minis are left. I just got 2 recently and they’re great for the price. much better modes/tint. not sure about rcr16340, but they work great will cr123s. I believe rcr16340s will work but you might have heat issues with the ss.

if you are okay with some light modding the ultrafire DIY 602c on ft is a great deal and easy to mod. I just got done building one tonight and am running imr 16340s in it np. I would personally stick to 1 cell format for safety reasons and save the other cell as a back-up, but that’s just me. I’m sure people here will have lots of recommendations regardless

Thanks. So what are some 2 x RCR options? It’s either that or I get rid of these cells.

one of my favorite lights is my eagletac d25c…I know the d25c2 is a 2x16340 light. it’s not the cheapest, but they’re worth the price IMO with programmable modes, moonlight, etc. not too sure of any cheap budget 2x16340s.

I just got an oLight S10. It's a single RCR123/16340 light. I really liked it on paper, and so far it looks like this light will live up to my expectations, and there were a lot. The only disappointing part is that the threads feel gritty compared to my other lights, but that won't matter if it never wears out the anodization from the threads.

The oLight S20 is a dual RCR123/16340 version of the S10 with a few extra lumens, and possibly a very minor change to the UI. It requires an adapter for the RCR123's. Without the adapter it can use a single 18650. Since you want to use RCR123's and probably have 18650's, I highly recommend you take a look at this light. Fasttech has it.

you can toss them in my direction, i’ve considered buying that 602 host from fasttech, if its decent quality then you can’t lose

What kind of rcr 123's are they ?

Tenergies. Got them at Batteries Plus one day.

You could build a solarforce L2M with a Kaidomain single mode XM-L2 drop-in. That way you could use single or double 123’s or 18650’s plus you would really have a really well built pocket rocket.

it will wear out the anodization, guaranteed, just a matter of when
the s20 is an okay light, not worth its high cost in my opinion, but it is small, thin walled, and not that much bigger then a 18650 battery, the lumen sag as the head heats up is probably pretty bad

i still stand by the eagletac d25c2. it’s expensive (d25c is $40-50 not sure about d25c2), but you can program your low modes (low or moonlight), turn on/off mode memory, and there are 2 mode settings: head tightened = tactical mode (turbo/strobe) and head loosened has your programmed mode-set (low/moonlight, medium, high, and hidden modes (2x strobes, 2x beacons, 2x sos, and i think another…all hidden)). definitely a lot you can do to set it how you like it. You would have to check and see if it supports 2x rcr123/16340s though. I know the d25c does, but you usually lose your medium with rcr cells. it’s just low or moonlight and high/turbo (and hidden modes).

besides that, i know the surefire 6p takes a 17650 or 2x 16340 cells, which would allow you to use p60 drop ins. these are definitely not budget hosts though. there are also plenty of 18650 options out there for cheap if you don’t need a perfect fit (or want to use adapters).

OOPS, I made one major mistake. It's a dual CR123 light, but not a dual RCR123 light like I said it was.

I can't expect it to last forever, but I've had my Xeno e03 and use it almost every day and the anodization is still good enough to lock it out. I want the threads on the S10 to do as well or better.

The cost depends on how you value what the S20 offers. If the side clickie and UI don't mean a lot to you, then this light is a poor choice. As far as the thin body, it results in a lower weight, which I find desirable. For me, that puts this light high on my radar, and the pricing is competitive.

The guys in this thread have pulled it apart and didn't say anything awful about the heat path or the pill, which tells me that it's at least acceptable. Bad designs like hollow and floating pills usually get brought up and trumpeted around here. There is a significant about of sag in the first few minutes, but output stays flat after the initial sag.

Other than some people here not liking the tint, which is confirmed in this review from a website with terrible moderators & staff, this review seems good.

Would I personally buy a S20? No. That's because I'm an anything-but-18650 kind of flashoholic unless I get a ZL H600.

its not a bad light, but there is just not enough metal to dissipate a lot of heat, it can’t do more then 480 lumens on cr123 (420 on 18650), the tint is okay but not great, even cleaned and relubed its still kinda gritty, and i can get better lights for half the price, but not quite as small

if I had the money I would buy one of these…

And probably heavier too? If "better" means still offering a similar moonlight, mode spacing and memory with a side clicky, and still has anodized threads plus better heat characteristics for half the price, and I can't help but ask you to tell me what they are. I didn't think I was interested, but that kind of light for $20 is getting me interested.

The Trustfire Mini-01 or the new Mini-02 are the best little lights i put RCR123s’ into so far.

Try Crelant 7G3CS if you want to use 2xRCR

i consider the convoy s2 to be a lot better, its under $15, has anodized threads, more brightness, memory, better heat dissipation, good modes, its slightly bigger, heavier, more durable, less then half the price and is programmable if you have the hardware, and easy to upgrade. No side clicky :frowning:
