Features / Value: ★★★★

At just over $16.00 this is by far not an expensive light. For the price you get a light that has an extremely smooth sliding zooming function. The main reason for this is the snug fit between the sliding outer lens holder on the rubber oring. You can sit the light on the bezel without the weight of the light pushing the battery tube down. The lanyard is not that different from other lights in this class and should do the job ok. There is plenty off space from the end of the switch rubber boot to the end off the tailcap allowing perfect tail standing. Having the ability to use such a wide variety off batteries should never leave you in the dark. There was no adapter supplied to use 18650 batteries. 26650 batteries fit fine as well as the AAA batteries in the supplied adapter.

Design / Build Quality: ★★★

The anodizing was ok with the usual few blemishes in the finish. Durability wise it looks and feels ok. There were several rings in the beam from the screw in led retainer. After blackening out the ring most off the rings disappeared. This ring was also the poorest built part of the flashlight as the couple of threads it had were extremely loose in the housing. all the other threads were of average quality. There were very few threads on the tailcap itself. I loved the feel off the switch. It had a firm press with very positive clicks. The lens was flawless and suited this light perfectly.

Battery Life: ★★★★

The standard driver had next mode memory. Running on Turnigy LSD AAA batteries the current draw at the tailcap was 1.6amps on high, .9 amps on med and .22 amps on low. This will give reasonable runtime on these batteries. The flashlight was noticeably brighter on a 26650 King Kong which would give an extremely long runtime.

Light Output: ★★★★

Depending on what batteries were being used was how bright the light was. Taking this into consideration the light performed well in this department. My daughter took a liking to this light while camping. She used it on all zoomed out in her tent, anywhere zoomed whilst walking and when her pups disappeared into the gloom of night she could zoom the light out and find her pups with no problems out to over 100 meters. I would almost call this light the perfect camping light for a child running rechargable AAA batteries.

Summary: ★★★★

I enjoyed using this light when I could steal it from my daughter. It has proven itself on many occasions and has never failed to work. The zooming function remains rock solid and the finish shows no sign off abuse that has been dished out to it.

Being the person I am, I did do one very cheap mod to this light. Yes, I swapped the driver to a 2.2 amp 7135 driver with memory. Now the light is just about perfect for the use It will have with me (my daughter).

Zoomed in.

Zoomed out.

You can see where the led sits and its not hollow like a few other zoomies are.

The pill and the extremely loose led retainer. You can also see the oring for the sliding head.

XM-L T6 led.

The tailcap which works like a charm. Theres not many threads though.

The pill was nicely machined and driver spring very sturdy.

The machining on the battery tube was very nice including the threads.

The lens worked very well in this flashlight.

Thanks again to Aura Buy for providing this light for review and there patience in waiting for me to post this review up.

Nice review. These all seem to be about the same. I have one and it’s not bad really. Kind of a nice overall flashlight.

Nice review. I have one too and I agree with you about the light feeling solid, but driver needing to be changed out. I find the light a bit too cool for my taste. I feel that way about all my zoomies though… Maybe I should attempt my first dedome on this light. I hear dedoming tends to warm up the tint.

Thanks for the review. I have the same light branded as a Poppas W-878 and its nice. Yes some versions have hollow pills, good to hear this one doesn't. Mine is definitely direct-drive on high. Pulls over 4A on a King Kong 26650.

4 amps on high with a 26650 kk? wont that be the brightest zoomable single battery not modified light?

I never took tailcap measurements with anything but the AAA’s. At 4 amps you’d have an impressively bright light.

the hollow pill might be a real minus point due to xml.

AAA nice review !

Hi Alexander528. No I did not take any night shots before I swapped the driver. Standard its bright enough to see detail well over 100 meters. The square is quite large so you cans see quiet a bit in the distance.

ugh… another nice review without any beamshots or comparison shot.
come on people… you already got a free flashlight, the least you can do post some beamshots or comparison shot with other lights, so other member get the idea how bright is this thing.
without beamshots is like trusting a used car salesman

I agree with your sentiments but unfortunately with a busy schedule you just dont get everything done you should. I have a apologised previously on this thread about this and I apologise again. I hang my head in shame. This flashlight was sent out as a gift without a request for a review. I offered to do a quick review as a gesture of thanks. :frowning:

It would be nice also to have a tailcap measurement. Its not as good as a lumen-sphere or whatever, but its a start to give us an idea of how hard its driven.
There are TONS of weakly driven XM-L zoomies out there.

Hi joe1512. The tailcap currents are in the battery life in the first post. What defines a weakly driven XM-L? Not every light has to be driven at 5amps +. The lights intended use has to be taken into consideration as well as heat sinking, battery life etc. I have built lights with XM-L leds driven at .4 amps and for there intended use are perfect.

The brightness is 1800 Lumen

So about 600 lumens

Nice little light thx for sharing.

Wow, thats one amazing zoomie you bought. On the description it says it has 7 x XM-L T6. Dont be disappointed when it only has one led. I hope you like it.

Hoping several people have bought these from several places by now and can chime in — where do you get one with a solid pill? Where do they send ones with hollow pills?

Lots of them out there for anywhere upwards of around $10. The one described above sounds well worth modding, with a solid pill.

EDIT — also I notice Aurabuy no longer says they’re selling a 26650 version of this light — and many other sources also don’t list it as taking 26650.

They cheapened the general model build out I think to only take 3xAAA and 18650s, but those are not W-878. I’ve had it substituted for the W-878 model buying on ebay and I think this is part of why people stay away from it. I’ve purchased mine over a year ago, and I forget atm where I got them all, and which is which. I think I got two on Amazon actually, but I gave one away, and lost one. Then I paid $8, you can usually get the non-26650 hollow pill one for $5. The 878 is much heavier/sturdier and has a lot more aluminum to transfer heat if you wanted to mod one. No guarantees this is the good one, but its $9.7 here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092Q1N7W

LOL! Love that beamshot on Amazon! Looks like car headlights! Back to the light - I've always been meaning to buy another one to mod for my young daughter's use. Would be nice to know which is a good one.

EDIT - there is a customer image showing a hollow pill. I'm sure though that it's hit or miss which version you receive.
