Scorpion Hunting

My wife and I went on a little night walk around a park in Scottsdale. I brought my UF 501B with a 395nm UV drop in to see if we could find some scorpions. We had some luck!

We found this little guy on the side of the walk way. I pushed him onto the sidewalk with a stick to see if he was alive.

You can really see how blacklight reactive he is. Without the UV he was pretty camouflaged.

He was alive and he was also not a very happy camper. Pretty nice specimen though!

Here’s another fella hiding in the bushes.

Under the light of my other light, you can see this guy is a little more grey/black than our other find.

It was a great time!

Anyone know of a bright (read:crazy bright) UV light? I’d wear UV glasses if needed.

If you get visible purple spill from your uv drop in then I’d recomend yellow glasses to improve your contrast & scorpion spotting ability. Cuts out any purple.

from the first picture only, thought it was a see through beam :D

does this wave length can view secret watermark in money bill?

I second the yellow glasses. I almost hate myself for buying them. I am thinking about buying a new carpet now.

Hahaha…I hate carpet. Ripped every stitch out of the last two houses I have owned…nastiness underneath…yech! Stained the concrete and never looked back. Allergies have improved significantly!
