This looks very interesting. 20” in length and a dozen XM-L’s for some serious output. I have no idea if there is a thermal management circuit or how hard the emitters are driven. Specs claim 120W (or 12W per emitter, so hopefully 3A per emitter) Hopefully, heat is properly conducted to the exterior aluminum housing.
That’s nice, and a reasonable price too. I would have a use for this if it was Marine grade (salt water). I have my doubts it would last long on a lobster fishing vessel.
I also would like to see hybrid reflectors on the outer four emitters for a wider spill. Even as it is, it’s a very nice light bar.
One of the few items I’ve seen on DX that has a CE certification.
i have seen a similar sized lightbar i ebay with the center emitters having smo reflectors and the edges with OP.
i noticed lightbars coming out right now usualy rely on altering the reflector type ( smo or op) to shape the lightbar’s beam. the earlier lightbars usualy do this via optics ( TIR, Elipticals).
just waiting for this to have a combo beam before pulling the trigger.
The “Other Features” reads “20 degree (spot) and 45 degree (flood) beam”. The smaller version of this light shows the same description, but the photos show two different reflectors. It is unclear if the larger version (above) has two different reflectors (flood and spot) in the same housing. Im guessing that it probably does.
Smaller version:
If it doesnt perform to expectations, (as long as the housing isnt glued or mig/tig welded closed) a few simple mods could tailor this to meet your needs. As far as lasting in the marine environment, powder coating and a proper marine RVT to seal it should work as good as anything else in its price range. This type of light works best in providing a close-in to intermediate range wide area spot, not a flood light or long range driving light.
I have a pair of expensive modified Hella 4000’s with 100W HID conversions on my pickup but am considering a powerful intermediate beam for slow speed rough terrain crawling. Something like this should beat the pants off of 4,6 and 8 XML versions by providing a wider and more useable beam. The huge availability of optics and lens options for XML is staggering for those who want to mod. Very cool stuff!
