New EDC, DX CR123A

Found this on DX: 2200ma Driver!

Fastech has the same light for cheaper, though theirs is a 5 mode compared to the DX 1 mode.

Hopefully someone can do a review of this soon, very interesting light for a good price.

Looks like a xtar wk21 clone, might have to have it to see if its as good :p

ordered

Me likey. Prob go with fastech version. Thx posters

I'd like to buy it from Fasttech, but a 5 mode twisty is a bit much. Plus I hate strobe and SOS modes. For a little over a dollar more, I'd go for the DX version

I saw this one at Fasttech also, may order it.I agree 5 modes with a twisty is a bit much, but if it has mode memory or starts on high every time I could deal with that.-Rick

Knowing DX you might get a 5 mode

single mode wins

Memory would make it acceptable. Unfortunately the specs say nothing about having it...

That is a possibility. That would suck..

I’ve been looking at that one for a while. I would not want 5-mode in a twisty (or any light), memory or not. Having to cycle through all the modes to get where you want; no thanks.
Single mode is a tough call too, since it’s an EDC, I’d want a low mode too. If I picked this up, I’d have to mod it.
It’s a bit chunky too, for a 16340 light.

Hi,

You all might consider the original WK-21 also. It’s on sale at md-lightsource now for $29.95. That has the programmable modes. I don’t have one, but have been thinking about it for awhile now :)…

In all honesty, I'm not into twisty lights. I have a few and they tend get little or no use. I do keep an Olight i1 EOS in my car with a couple of spare CR123A's just in case. Unfortunately it's got a horrible green tint. I guess it's ok for emergencies. Maybe I'll get one of these to replace the Olight.

I like twisties if they can be one-hand operated. Smaller ones like Tank007 E09 and my MXDL 3W (modded everything but the body) are good. This one looks too ‘fat’ to be one-handed comfortably. No more than three modes, with a lo low.
I have high hopes for the DQG 18650. If it lives up to them, no more twisties for me.

The DQG 18650 looks nice for a twisty, but it's a bit too pricey IMO.

I was on the edge at $30 but decided to go for it. The next option was the ZL SC600 at double the price. Even the SC52 is quite a bit more and I almost pulled the trigger on that.

I am hoping Fast Tech will offer some twisty lights in their Convoy line.

I have the SC52. It's without a doubt by far the best EDC I've owned. IF I lost it, I'd buy another in a second.

The SC600 MKII would be nice to have, but it's $90. It's a bit over budget for me right now

OK Glenn, if the DQG doesn’t cut it as the perfect EDC, I’m getting the SC52 and done with EDC lights

I have two of these ordered from FastTech. It is bright, has a magnetized tail (an unexpected but very useful add-on) but you need to use the right 16340/RCR123A batteries.

I tested the run-time of this light last night using the 16340 I ordered together with it, a protected TrustFire 16340 880 mAh battery (SKU 1052800). The battery was fully charged to 4.18 volts (using a Nitecore I2 charger) and I was expecting the test to take longer but the results were otherwise. At high mode, the light only ran for exactly two (2) minutes. When I took the voltage reading, it was 4.05 volts. I guess that because of the PCB, the battery cannot provide the current that the UF-K21 needs.

I used another 16340, an unprotected HZS 16340 rated at 1200 mAh (yeah an outrageous claim). At high mode, the light ran for about 15 minutes before it started to get dim. Taking no chances, I turned off the light and took the voltage reading. It was 3.02 volts. One thing I noted was that the flashlight was very hot to touch after 5 minutes that I had to cool it down in front of an ACU.

I think that with the right 16340/RCT123A batteries, we can get the most out of this light. I have already ordered 2 Nitecore RCR123As from FastTech (SKU 1134001) and I can’t wait for them to arrive. I just hope that these Nitecore batteries will perform as expected.
