For quite some time now , the L2P grey has been unavailable , so when it finally became available again to buy, I did not hesitate . This is my second L2P , the first one was a black one and I agonized over which one to buy , Black or Grey , Ok I should have sprung for both , but who knew they were going to stop producing the grey model ?

I really like the L2P , Solarforce has really gone to great lengths to make the L2P a stand out product , it takes the L2 host to the next level , for those who demand more quality and a better fit and finish . Now I had only one complaint , on the body tube at the rear , there was a bur left after machining [ easy to remove ] , and the inside edge is a little on the sharp side as a result [ not a deal breaker ] , but everything else is just superb .

The anodizing is so nice and even , and I do like the color [ tempted to buy another ] , everything fits together so nicely [ head - tailcap ] , with minimal slop , and the parts screw together nice and smoothly . One of the complaints about the regular L2 from Solarforce is the mis-matched knurling on the body and tailcap , if you look at the pictures , you will see some very nicely matched diamond checkering on the body and tailcap . So if the regular L2 vexes you in this regard , you may need to buy a L2P .

You will notice in the pictures a have removed the regular bezel and replaced it with the Stainles Steel Flat L2 bezel ring , I prefer the flat SS one [ personal choice ] , and since I had a spare doing nothing .

Im really happy with this L2P , I love the color , and I love the quality , and combined with a XM-L drop in , it offers me everything I could ask of a flashlight , I can highly recommend the L2P to anyone looking for a quality P60 host .

The drop in is a DIY XM-L built on a KD empty pill , http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=9208

With this driver from KD , http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=10995

And this emitter from DX , http://www.dealextreme.com/p/xml-u2-1c-320lm-7000k-led-white-light-emitter-with-16mm-base-3-7v-57008 , just a note , the one I got , not as good as the T6's from Cutter , so whether its U2 ?

Anyways , the driver can be set up several ways by connecting the stars to the neg rim on the driver , I set mine up to be 3 mode [ Hi - med - Lo ] , and just a quick note , to turn the light back on in the same mode , it has to be on about 5 seconds [ This is the driver ] . My build pulls about 2.5A and starts just under 780L and then slowly sags to 700L , now those numbers are just fine for me , but what I really like is medium , 0.80A for around 250L and low , 0.05A for about 20L , I really like Low , with a 2400mAh battery , your talking 2 full days run time .

It looks like the Grey L2P is quickly becoming my favorite flashlight , the flavor of the moment so to speak , but at least I know its going to be as good as the L2P black I have had for quite some time now .

Anodizing well done [ even ] HA-3

glass Lens

Tailstands

Knurling well done [ matches tailcap ]

Nice mechanical clicky

Well cut threads

Fit of head and tailcap excellent

External machining Excellent

Internal machining Excellent [ bur left on tail end of body ]

What can I say , except for the bur on the end of the body tube , I just have nothing negative to say .

Very nice!

This is it, right? http://www.solarforce-sales.com/product_detail.php?t=FB&s=7&id=18

It appears to tailstand? Does this come stock with a tailstandable switch, or did you buy a different one?

Damn you for putting up these pics. I loooove this flashlight and in grey . . . I just went over the solarforce-sales and ordered two in grey.

I've been using my first L2P for about three months now and can honestly say it is the best light in my sad collection. One of the things I find impressive is how tough the annodizing is. The shiny black on, for example a black L2, chips and looks old much sooner, while my L2P still looks as good as it did when new. I've actually dropped it several times on asphalt and there's still not a scratch.

Your custom driver sounds like a winner too.

Its the stock L2P tailcap , and yes thats the one ...

Thanks Old, it does tailstand, right?

And between L2P Grey and the L2X, if you could only have one, which would it be?

Tailstands just fine ...

L2X or L2P = You would ask that ! , push comes to shove , if some one put a gun to my head ? The L2P , but only if it was a life or death decision .

And only because it would ride in the pocket a little smoother ...

Thanks for the reply!

And they're both good with an XTAR 18700?

Xtar 18700's work just fine , in fact Im using one in the Grey [ Xtar 2600 ]

Never have Solarforce host, considering to buy one.

What is the length of this host with SS Bezel?

Thanks.

About 139mm ....

I just oredered the 5 pack of the kd driver and i'm curious if the mode memory is really that awful? also it is hi-med-lo or lo-med-hi as i read somewhere else? Also why it does not go to 2.8A is beyond me... althrough 2.5 suites my needs perfectly. Too bad the med is not 1A i would liked that better.

The grey L2P is truly the best looking quality P60 host to me. I have to grab one sooner or later.

Modes are High Med Low ...

Matt, it's me, or SF website grey is not so dark as your L2P sample? The only drawback (AFAIK) is that spare parts are only in black :( So if you want to change smt... will look not so good (wiil be gray+black)

Yeah , I noticed that , but wonder if its just the lighting , or have they changed the color ? , web picture sure does look a lot lighter for sure .

They L2P is much darker in reality than on the picture on solarforce-sales. Did everyone else get a (blank) Solarforce certificate of authority? Not retail packaging either, but I guess it doesn't matter.

I ordered on thursday evening, it was posted on friday, left HK on Monday, got the note to collect it yesterday (wednesday). Not bad.

I've noticed that the photos of SF lights often don't reflect the true color very well. I have a "Natural" colored L2P from Lighthound that is actually more of an Olive color.

Old4570, your pics don't show the 'L2P Special Edition' label that the photo on SF does. Does your copy have that label?

Its on the other side , its 3am , ill take a picture latter in the morning ...

I think the colour of the grey L2P's is just a little random, I have two (bought about a year ago) one is much darker than the other. I like them both and I can tell them apart which is someties helpful :)

As a follow up to photon1k's question, what is the serial number on yours if it has one?

I just wonder if we can tell how many they've sold since then, mine are A0337 & A0340

Sorry for using this topic, but I can't figure it out what's the difference between the L2 and L2P ?

I like those Solarforces L and wanna buy a few.

My grey L2P is chipped on the bezel, and not by me. Not impressive after paying $22 just for the host. The packaging was NOT good either, just a non-retail blister pack in a paper envelope.
