Replacing Eiki LC-120 projector bulb with LED cluster project.

Hello all, my first posting, not actually flashlight related, as to LED related, hence its posting in this thread.

I picked up this Eiki LC-120 projector for $10 bucks from a garage sale almost 5 years ago, and it faithfully ran until as of late, then the status went red, the picture dimmed, and then one night pop, the blulb literaly blew.

Ive looked all over for replacement blubs for this unit and every one Ive found are close to $200 bucks. Needless to say, Im not shelling out 2 bills for it, Id rather just pick up a newer unit. That said, its a tank of a projector and I get a huge bright screen out of, so Id like to retrofit a cluster of LEDs if possible.

Bonuses forseen include, lowered heat, less stress on DLP, less noise, longer life, brighter picture. Theres 2 fans, Im pulling one and replacing the other with newer, quiter, higher airflow fan as a side project.

So, all that said, Im looking for any help regarding finding the clearest, brightest, economical LED/cluster and power supply to replace a metal hyd 125 watt bulb.

One problem I can forsee is getting the projector to run while old bulb isn’t installed.
Ill be looking up schem’s and see how it detects bulb, so far as I can see tho, its just the two prong high voltage lines that connect it to the unit, Im going to see if I can just flash a light through tonight and see if I can get an image.

What voltage was the bulb?

A big problem with LED arrays is that you will be projecting an array of dots…

Off topic…but i have an infocus 4805 with 4 or 5 hundred hours on the bulb that i’d sell for about 30 bucks

scaru: I wasn’t really thinking of running off projector voltage, as its likely insanely high, I’ll just run an external supply.

texaspyro: I was hoping for some kind of lens would solve that problem.

dthrckt: Im game, I PMed ya, thanks much!

Lenses will just make it worse. You would need some kind of diffuser, but in the limited space inside a projector, it would be difficult to do. Getting an even illumination field in a projector is not an easy thing to do, particularly if you light source is an array of bright little dots.

sry I meant diffuser, and Ive got tons of space in there, Ill shoot a pic of space Im filling.

just found this, looks like im not alone…
