Big thunderstorm ..lightning took out the lights

BLACKOUT ...!!!

A flashaholics dream come true :)

If you can't wait for it to get dark ...... you got it BAD ..!

Oh dear...... Now whats the estimated outage time, vs available lumens x hours. --> In essence, how many lumens should you be burning per hour?

I've calculated that I only have enough battery capacity x output to maintain the same level of illumination in the house for 2 hours only. Thats under 700 lumens per room x 4. (equivalent to a 11W fluro per room)

1 set of batteries for the AA torches (16x 120 lemon), and 2 sets for the 2 big (800-1000 lemon) torches.

I'm sorta jealous!

At one time i tought... wouldn't it be nice to have a solar eclipse for a few days every now and then?

A couple of times we've had our electric turned off so they could mess about with the cables under the road, but the power is always back on by 3pm.

I think the last proper power cut was in the early 80's and that was due to a little bit of a disagreement between the unions and the goverment.

I just wish there wasn't so much light polution, I wouldn't mind being able to see more than just the brightest stars.

Ooh that reminds me watch this - http://vimeo.com/22439234

Several years ago complained loudly about the $80 wife spent on solar powered landscape lighting. Month later, hurricane Ike hit, leaving us without electric for 2 weeks.

Harvested all those solar lites (about 30) every night at dusk, planted em in empty beer bottles & placed in every room. Neighbors thought I must have had a generator, every room was lit up, main room quite brightly with multiple solar lites.

Had to eat crow about those landscape lights. Most flashlights were dead after a few days, and the inverter on the car battery was used to power a small TV, a fan, & cell phone chargers. Its changed my thinking on my 'hurricane preparation'. Thinking of which, gotta order some fresh rechargables for those solar lites with hurricane season coming up.

There really isn't anything like candles for a super long power outage-especially those really long running fat ones.

Not really, tried that. Gave us all headaches from carbon monoxide & smells. And not very bright at all.

Carbon monoxide...psh, during the Ice Storm a few years ago up here, half the homeowners stopped their homes pipes from freezing just by running those camping gas stoves....with nothing on them. And candle fumes are pretty good smelling.....they're good stationary as room lighting, but cheap headlamps are better for cooking and stuff.

Mmm... blackooouuttt

Superb video :O Downloaded in HD for screensaver :p

Yep, last time ours went out, the wife hollared that this is was what I had been waiting for. 2AA stick on the way

A little CO never hurt anyone, but a lot...well..ya know. Here's what you need, a Coleman lamp...they were used quite extensively years ago, especially in rural areas. I believe Coleman Canada made them into the 1950's. They burn white gas just like lanterns and make that great hissing sound. Houses are built a little tighter today though...I'd crack a window, which I do when burning lanterns indoors...crazy huh?!!

"And when the dark is going to win, the heroes from BLF will arrive. They join all the flashlight and with 1.000.000.000 of lumen they will save the world from eternal darkness"

Ok, this evening i'm a bit tired (and a bit silly)

Cool antique coleman! Never seen one like that. Used to have a white gas coleman, but looked like a normal camping lantern.

Boaz, we missed it last night Frown Looks like we are in for another round tonight Surprised. I think I'll go wrap a telephone pole in foil before it gets here Wink

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Hmm...I wonder how long all of Don's lights would last on their lowest setting used one after another...

I demand* an estimation!!

* I realy don't :P

Quite a long time.

I know the UF-H3D will run for around a week on its lowest setting. I own around two dozen 18650s. Say 6 months.

I have a very low-powered 2 cell PR bulb that'll drain the cells more slowly than the self-discharge of the cells. It'll run for around 16 days continually on a pair of 4Ah D cells. It's also a useful battery vampire which could use up all the juice in my stash of used cells awaiting recycling.

The MRV will give about a day and a half on low.

The Zebralight H50 will run for 2-3days on low. and I own a lot of AA NiMH cells.

I have around 100 AAA alkalines - that should keep the AAA lights going for a while.

We had a power outage last year , just as I started firing up flashlights , and getting things lit up , the power came back on ...

I think it lasted all of 20 minutes ...

Our power outages happen in the day, when the airconditioners are on full blast
