Knife..."styled like a tactical flashlight"

knives I found “styled like a tactical flashlight”
With “Lightning Fast” assisted opening

Uncertain quality but certainly a novelty

Black: Sheriff
Blue: Police
Red: Fire Fighter

They’re sort of awful, but part of me wants one. >.< Assisted openers are fun!

wow… the price is very cheap…i’m not a knife fan, but are those knives built to last?
the “claw knives” is awesome ! for less than $20…

Heh thats kind of neat. I guess “assisted opening” is the new euphamism for switchblade.

I do wonder if assisted openers were around in the time switchblade laws were made, they would be outlawed too.

These just have a button and are definitely illegal to import (Restriction of Offensive Weapons Act 1959):

The difference between the switchblade and the assisted opening in law is that the switchblade has the spring attached to the blade, and the assisted opening has the spring attached to the frame. A technicality that keeps those knives on sale. Of course a good flipper is just as fast and purely mechanical.

I’m pretty sure I could import a Ganzo G707. I’d just have to get a dispensation from the Police. Since I don’t have a criminal record that should be merely a formality.

The quality is not nearly as good as Ganzo or SRM, overall the quality of most Chinese knives seems to have improved over the last few years, I have another tac force assisted similar to these: Tac Force bayonet knife. Not really something you would EDC, more of a novelty for aficionado’s of M9 bayonets (for M16/AR style rifles) just like these are a novelty for flashlight collectors. I may get one of the flashlight knives next time I order there.

ugh. gross.

Some other knives I like that I bought from Wild Bills:
http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/smweexopsli5.html (very nice quality)
http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/mo002.html (Large heavy knife unique blade design)
http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/ta13spasopgi4.html (Ridiculously huge assisted opening knife, nice quality I got one with black color blade, currently out of stock but they have a rainbow color one: http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/yc547rb.html)

Assisted opening are legal (in most states) because of the method in which the blade is deployed more so than where the spring is connected.

In order to open an assisted opening knife you have to begin opening the blade manually (by pushing a thumb stud or “flipper”) and then the spring takes over, unlike a switchblade that opens by simply pushing a button.

(from Wild Bill Wholesale): What is the difference between a switchblade and a spring assisted opening knife?

Switchblade knives were invented in the early part of the 20th century. During the 1950’s the switchblade got a bad reputation as it was identified with gangs which were popularized by such movies as “On the Waterfront”, etc. As a result in the late 1950’s most states passed laws outlawing the possession of switchblade knives. A Federal statute was passed to make it unlawful to ship switchblades across state lines, unless being shipped to a law enforcement or military agency. Here we will explain the difference between illegal switchblade knives, and legal spring assisted opening knives.

All switchblades have some characteristics in common. They have a spring which exerts constant pressure on the blade. The knife is held in the closed position by the mechanism of the knife. This mechanism is released by depressing the button (which all switchblades have), allowing the stored energy the spring is exerting on the blade to propel the blade from the handle and open the knife. It is important to remember that the natural position of the switchblade knife is OPEN, it is held closed only by the locking mechanism.

On the other hand, the natural position of the spring assisted opening knife is CLOSED. There is no pressure being exerted upon the blade, and there is no button to push. Spring assisted knives employ the following opening methods:

1) A “Flipper” or lever which is located on the back spine of the knife. This flipper is actually an integral part of the blade which protrudes from the back spine of the knife when it is in the closed position. This is the most common opening mechanism of spring assisted knives.

2). A thumb stud, the same as is found on most all tactical folding knives.

In either case, either flicking the “flipper” or pushing out the thumb stud begins opening the blade, at which point the assisted opening mechanism takes over and finishes opening the blade. Performance wise, there is very little (if any) difference in the opening speed of a switchblade and a spring assisted knife. However, the differences in the way they are made make the spring assisted knives legal in all 50 U.S. states (They are not legal in the 5 boroughs of New York City, but this is because all locking blade knives have been held to be illegal in NYC, not just the spring assisted ones).

Agreed, they are pretty lame but being a flashlight and knife aficionado they sparked my interest since I’m easily attracted to purely useless novelty items, which is why I’ll probably waste $5.49 on one.

But I hate stuff too. :frowning:

The UK Border Agency regards them as flick knives and impounds and destroys them. Happened to me. The only parcel from DX they have ever opened.

Now cops have a reason to scrutinize someone's flashlight as a safety precaution.

Ugh. As if they needed more of a headache, doing such a thankless and dangerous job.

Ah, this would make a nice letter opener! Pity it is out of stock. :frowning:

Love the red Sasquatch! That molded grip in red coupled with the black blade is a hot little combo. Shame the shipping charges aren't as cheap as the pricing on the knives.

I quite like this one , it reminds me of the Cold Steel Ti-Lite.

Nice find, I like the red too, those are trying to mimic the handle of this Boker Jim Wagner A really nice knife, I have the auto version of this Boker.

Agreed too much shipping to just buy one knife, you have to be buying several to offset the shipping cost. They are wholesale so the idea is you buy an assortment of like 30+ knives, paying less .50 cents ea. or less in shipping, then go to the flea market and sell them for at least double your cost.

Thanks for the idea, I think the rainbow version (in stock) would make a great letter opener. http://www.wildbillwholesale.com/yc547rb.html

I should have called this the “Wild Bills” thread!

Here is another cool assisted knife if you like skulls, I like this blade shape. DEMON HUNTER

Also in other colors: DEMON HUNTERS

And then of corpse there’s the UNDEAD series

And the DEATH LORD Karambit
