MXDL SA-28 CREE Q2 5-Mode Lens Flashlight

I just got this light from KD:

http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=9567

I allready have a couple of flood to throw lights, all twisty, but I wanted to try a pushpull specimen.

At first try I got very disappointed, as the light made a scraping sound whenever I changed from

throw to flood. The head also wobbled a lot. I lubed it, but still the same.

Then I pulled the light apart and discovered the problem: At the factory they have used 2 metal(!!!)

O-rings. Not rubber or silicone ones. I changed the "O-rings" and now it works perfect. No scraping

and no more wobbling of the head

Otherwise its a very nice light. Description says Q2, but on the light it says Q5. Should have 5 modes

but in reality only have 3 (low-high-strobe) No memory.

Can use one 18650 or 3 AAA. Batteryadaptor supplied. When used with 18650 you use a extender which

comes with the light.

Its brighter than my Romisen C6 and RC 29, both when using AAA´s and 18650. Looking forward to see

what it can do tonight.

That's nice that it can use either 18650 or 3xAAA. I'm glad you were able to replace the o-rings. Did you have the right size on hand already?

No not realy. I took a look into my toolbox and found 2 i have for my watertaps in the kitchen. They fitted nicely.

I´ll buy some silicone ones in the near future.

It'd be nice if every 3AAA light would also take an 18650 or an 18500. Rechargeable and generally better. I tried to get adapters machined up to take an RCR123 but the cost was way too high to be worth doing. I did make a couple of dummy AAAs to fit in the holders so I could use a 10440 but capacity was rather low. Those 3AAA lights are good at giving a little light for a very long time.

Now its dark here and I have testet the light outside, and I´m very impressed.

The light is a h... of a thrower. Even more thrower than my R2 lights.

Flood is not as good as throw. The area are rather small and not that bright,

but as an everyday light, walking the dog etc., its very impressive and the price

taken in account everybody should buy one now its a Q5 without changing of

price. Modes should have been low.mid.high then it would be near perfect in

every way.

Very versatile with more battery and modesolutions. I have not testet runtime,

but I take it that it can run forever on LOW with 3 AAA´s.

What is the light made of, i know DX sells some that are made of plastic.

Except for the bad "o-rings" its a very well made light and the material is alu.

Threads are good but unlubed. I think lens are plastic, but dont know for sure.

Clicky works allright. Led well centered. Nothing is glued.

Thanks for the quick reply.......

FYI, here's a new AA zoomable lens flashlight: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.33708

I haven't tried it, but SmallSun is usually a decent brand.

Good looking and 14500 batteries are a fine thing, and holster too. Nice!

I agree it does look nice.......well things are looking up for me now at work so i might get a couple of lights if i have the spare cash.....2 months of not working sucks.

Being without work sucks big time.

Good luck to you

Yes i know man.....have'nt you noticed that i have been lurking the forum way too much.Wink

Hang in there! Hope it all works out well for you.

I hope so as well......its hard just trying to find work, especially if no one's hiring. Got to see and work with all my buds though.

Had to get one

using 1 x 18650

Nice beamshot! I think this light is awesome. My brightest and most useful light. It's brighter than my XPG R5. SA-28 has more useful light on flood and throws like crazy. I was pointing it up in the sky and it's like a spotlight. I can maybe call Batman out!

Your full zoom is still circular? Mine is the picture of the LED.

Mine is also the picture of the led. You can see internal photos here.

Is almost better zooming flashlight I have, only surpassed in potency by Tank007 737.

(But the latter is rotating zoom, the more uncomfortable to operate)

So you're saying the Tank007 737 is even brighter than the MXDL SA-28? I need to get one then! My MXDL is pulling 1.4A from a 4.12V 18650.

Do you have a link to the Tank?
