I have trouble to decide which one

I just got an RRT-01 yesterday. The ring feels really loose and gritty (maybe some grease will fix it). There’s an indent of sorts at the beginning and one at end of the ring’s turning span; it’s noticeable, but feels kind of vague (sloppy, doesn’t provide much feedback). Is that normal on all RRT-01? The looseness makes it feel kind of cheap IMHO. I like the light on it, it’s not as white as on the V11R. Battery tube has space for a 18350 (I haven’t tried - don’t have a 18350 - I have one on order).

I have a V11R too, it feels better built. The ring also seems loose on it as well, but it has none of that grittiness when turning it (smoother than the RRT-01 and a bit more resistance). Has a linear ramp up to brightness level (no ramp up if you’ve got the ring turned to full intensity). Tailcap forward clicky switch can be a plus because it’s got momentary (good if you want to manually strobe/sos/signal - i don’t remember if this one had a hidden blinky mode ore not).

I like both of them. RRT-01 might be slightly ahead because I don’t have to deal with the clicky switch and I prefer pocket clips to be bolted onto the body rather than how the V11R clips on.

go with sunwayman
i got V60C and it was a good light

I've been planning on buying the V11R.

I prefer the RRT-01 for the following reasons:

1. handshake grip - no need to flip the light in your hand to adjust brightness after turning it on. All the controls are easily available without changing grip.
2. Can use higher powered 18350 cells which contain more energy than the 16340 cells used in the V11r.
3. Much brighter than the V11r (when using IMR 18350 in the RRT-01 and IMR 16340 in the V11r).
4. Wider spill beam. The RRT-01’s reflector is shallower, producing a wider spillbeam better for close in work.
5. Easier to mod - I’ve had good success modding my RRT-01. Emitter swaps are easy, and I was also able to disassemble the ring to add more lubricant. I had much less success with the V11. I tried modding my old V11a and was unable to get to the emitter or the ring.

The older model RRT-01s produced an ugly ringy beam, but the newer models use an OP reflector and produce a perfect beam.

The V11R has an on/off switch in the tailcap.

Sunwayman. I played with both and it wins easily.

Sunwayman gets my vote

i was debating between the 2 as well… ended up with the RRT-01… 18350s and one spot UI (vs ring and tail clicky)…. lower low i believe as well, iirc.

there are a number of threads around that compare the RRT-01 and V11R (or one or the other where both lightsend up in the discussion…)

seems like both are win-win…

i’ll report when mine gets in…

carry the 11R and 10R daily. 11R is setup with 16340 and the 10R with 14500.

Sunwayman. I use it almost every day and it works perfectly.

I always fancied the SWM. The more I read about JetBeam and having had a few email conversations with them, just leaves me feeling like they are a bit of a rip off and happy to lie about spec.

That said, I’d probably opt for a Niteye EYE10 or 15 these days.

RRT01. Because:

  • Handshake grip. No need to flip the light around between grip styles during use, because it has no button.
  • Lowest lows on the market, smoothly ramping up from damn-near-zero to 500 lumens. The V11R doesn’t go low enough for some of my needs, but the RRT01 goes down to the dimmest level I can see and possibly even lower.
  • Screw-on clip (I generally don’t like clip-on clips like the V11R has).
  • Recent models have the best beam pattern I’ve ever seen, with a very smooth transition from center to edge. Mine also has the best Cree-based tint of any light I’ve seen, second only to a Nichia 219.
  • I think it’s prettier, with its stainless steel bezel.
  • Unlike the V11R, one can’t unscrew the head of the light by turning it on too fast.
  • Slightly shorter.

The main thing I’m not as fond of with it is that its control ring has a slight metal-on-metal feel, like it needs a little bit more lube. I managed to mostly fix this without taking it apart though, by adding some Tuf-Glide.

That's what bothers me about these control ring lights. The ability to start in moonlight and quickly go to high is appealing, but I fear I'd wreck one quickly if I carried it backpacking...I carry my light in an external mesh pocket...with dirt getting behind the control ring. It's a moot point really because all these control ring lights are heavier than I'd want to carry on long backpacking trips.

The RRT01 is now $85 and V11R is $75 at FT.com. That kind of puts the decision in a different light ( ). From being ok priced $50ish lights they now gone up around 50% over night :expressionless:

I’ll pass for now.

Saw on CPF that some guy got what looks like an updated RRT-01 with XM-L2.

I’ve had my V11R almost a year and I’m still a big fan. The grease finally wore out and made the ring easier to turn like everyone said it would, but I actually like it better this way.

Definitely. And terrible timing, too. I was just about to order one as a gift, but adding $30 to the price made that less appealing… I ended up ordering it from wallbuys instead, since they haven’t been MAP’d yet. $51 is a lot nicer than $85 for this item. I hope it will arrive without any issues and I hope it’ll be just as good as the one I got from FastTech.

sunwayman looks cool. just for the appearence,
